I think some of you guys are missing the point.
It is only a matter of time before the 'Open' spec will be the only choice available for the factories so Ducati are using this as a test bed to integrate their various systems into the standard ECU so when it is obligatory they are ready to go.
If this bike ends up being faster than the 'factory' bike then that will be no bad thing.

LLarry is on point here, Ducati gains season worth of valuable testing.

I dont see the extra fuel and engines helping them tho. Desmo has no problem with fuel usage or power. Maeby its easier to try new stuff on engines if they want, but in my opinnion thats about it.
