I wonder if he used the softer spec tyre at all? Or was his best lap on medium/harder compound? If that's the case it'll certainly make the race interesting with Marquez not being the fastest starter.

What I do know about Rossi is that he, almost always, finishes better than his qualifying position. And since the Open class bikes tend to finish worse than qualifying, he has a solid chance of fighting for 2nd. 1st, of course, unless MM has a horrible race, is going to untouchable.

Using hard tyre is something Rossi has always used when he is on song... Looking to have a stronger second half in race,,

If Rossi can stay with Dani for long enough then Dani will be an easy prey for 2nd...

Almost everybody is saying Rossi won't be a threat to Marquez. Let's say this there's rain expected on sunday. And although Marquez has proved he is possibly the biggest candidate for victory A Marquez hasn't test in the rain on CotA, B 2013 compounds this weekend, C in the rain the playing field is levelled and this will mix up things for sure if it will rain before or during the race I can see big chances for Rossi, Lorenzo and even Dovi and Chrutchlow.
So don't bet your horses yet Rossi has proven he can win races from third row on the grid, Rossi battled for the win in Quatar and we all know where Rossi came from and that Marquez his weakest point is the start of the race. Getting pole doesn't mean you can secure the race win. A confident feeling VR on a bike in the dry of wet is a possible threat to anybody.

Valentino qualified in 10th place in Quatar and look where he ended up!! It's race pace and pure racing skill that is Valentino's forte, so no matter where he is on the grid -4th, 5th or whatever, you can guarantee he wont finish the race in any of those positions.
