This is prototype racing
with the restriction that you have to choose your tyres on thursday and are not allowed to fly them in or produce them nearby at short notice.
So to the letter it is not prototype racing at all.

three things changed at one time:

-change from 990cc to 800 cc
-amount of tyres limited
-fly-ins barred

this turned it into a situation that is hard to oversee

Casey came to Ducati instead of Hayden or Melandri (he wasn't allowed to leave Gresini), adding another variable.
Question: could Melandri have done the same? (all Australians yell no)
Melandri on the Ducati in front of everyone like Casey now: how would the paddock then have reacted?
all hypothetical, but still...
