Well, if he hadn't completely trashed his number 1 bike like he did, there probably wouldn't have been a problem!
And actually, was there an engine problem at all? Nothing physically broken, or they could have seen that. Being sent back to Japan for investigation - hmmm. Sounds to me that nothing was wrong here and this is just a face-saving exercise for Rossi.

Yamaha has apologised to Valentino Rossi for the engine problem that robbed him of second place in the 2007 MotoGP World Championship - but isn't sure exactly what went wrong.

Unfortunately historic results do not guarantee future performance. How long did Yamaha go between Rainey and winning another championship?

The engine ceased, it was pretty clear to see as he entered the corner.

Eddy, I think it was far from saving face... how easy would it have been not to race at all? sorry, but he just doesn't give up... valencia last year? he threw the championship away himself but still picked the bike up and pushed on... We will see him back on form next year for sure. Hopefully this is the start of a turn around for michelin with pedrosa's win

If I ever would have the nerve of mounting a bike in a race with a freshly broken hand
and rode it through the painbarrier to a 15th position that would secure me a 2nd place in the World Championship
only to lose to mechanical failure halfway the race I'd feel pretty mean.

Rossi gave up. Broken bike yeah right, didn't look broken to me. Seems it doesn't look broken to the team either.

Rossi has lost it mentally. Still a great talent but mentally he is in a place that is completely foreign to him.

Rossi's career is over. He will not come back from this because Stoner, Pedrosa, Melandri, Lorenzo, Hopkins etc etc are not going to lay over for Rossi as the likes of Sete and Max did in the past.

Dorna can try all the like to gift Rossi more Championships but it will not work like it has in the past.

I watched the race again and there was no evidence of engine failure on the bike as far as I could see/hear. No tell tale puffs of smoke, loss of fluid or changes in engine note. The corner where he first slowed up looked more like he missed his breaking point and had to pick it up and run wide.
When he came into the pits, the engine sounded fine and was ticking over perfectly evenly - not what a sick engine normally does.
I guess we need to await the official verdict, but I tend to agree with the view that Rossi gave up rather than an engine problem.

Connor, why do you think he would give up the race needing only one point to secure 2nd place?
