I'm truly disappointed in this sport because anyone with a little common sence can see it is going to the dogs this way.
They are making 800 four strokes act like 250 two strokes with traction control and slipper clutch,
launch control and anti wheelie settings. You don't really know who is the best rider anymore as you need to be an ICT expert to decypher the systems they're running.
You can't hail the king without hailing the programmer, high tech industry in his country and globalisation.

They will probably get it right they are the biggest and richest company, but when?
Honda has made some dubious tactical choices in the last years, let's see how this works out.

If the new bike is this much of a step backwards, at this stage, I think we've just found out why Pedrosa didn't test. I bet he said to HRC "call me when you sort the engine out cos it's nowhere near at the moment" after trying it at Valencia...

Be interesting to see how quickley the bike gets up to speed compared with the Kawasaki, which Hopkins said here is just going to be evolved from the 2007 bike. Compeltely different approach.

In my opinion, the pneumatic valve option is a ba_tard fix. F1 teams use them because they have the space for the air tank but Hondas whole 800cc project is based around compactness. Trying to find space for an air tank seems like a desparate bodge. Ducati have their desmodromic valve system patented up to the eyeballs, so this is not an option (maybe this is why F1 don't use this system). I guess Kawasaki use air to good effect but I think a mechanical option would be better.

Actually I don't think they use air but nitrogen, at very high pressure.
The problem is not stowing away the reservoir as it is very small and only there to 'top up' the system
to compensate for leakage. It is probably more of an reliability issue, making it work properly on a bike.
This will take time but Suzuki and Kawasaki got theirs running ok so why shouldn't Honda?
Yamaha opts not to use it after testing it, this limits the maximum amount of revs the engine can make,
so they have to 'seek' it elswhere...

You know a lot,
the Desmodromic system is indeed a very good and clever solution that has been perfected for years by Ducati.
A lot of small parts in the cylinder head but reliable and gives the opportunity of very 'sharp' timing.
Other systems will appear and give the chance to experiment with 'variable cams' or actually 'virtual cams'
that may greatly increase the powerband of the engines.

Wouldn't this be the RC213V, e.g. it's a completely new bike!

It seems that with Honda needing to find more power before chassis development in earnest can begin that Pedrosa felt he'd be better off taking a break. I can understand the need to rest after traveling pretty much for 2 solid months, but come on this is his job. What does he want, Honda to turn over the bike to him when the development is nearly finished? Unless he's got an injury he's not talking about, it looks like he's being a primadonna. Maybe he ought to stick with the '07 bike that was tailor made for him anyway.

Having been dominant for too long, honda is arrogant and has got too much hubris. I hope they will get it wrong again next year, so that they can be brought down to earth and be taught a lesson in humility. Indeed I hope they will never be dominant again. Sod off honda!
