I'm truly disappointed in this sport because anyone with a little common sence can see it is going to the dogs this way.
They are making 800 four strokes act like 250 two strokes with traction control and slipper clutch,
launch control and anti wheelie settings. You don't really know who is the best rider anymore as you need to be an ICT expert to decypher the systems they're running.
You can't hail the king without hailing the programmer, high tech industry in his country and globalisation.
Fiat Yamaha declared after the Valencia race: 'it turned out to be a software problem, we upgrated to the newest version to be sure it won't happen again' WTF IS GOING ON HERE, BAN THE BLOODY ELECTRONICS

Thats a good point but if you ban the electronics, you'll have to ban the Horse Power. Do you notice how the crashes are less brutal now then they were during the 500cc two stroke era? Part of it is obviously do to the vicious 2 stroke power delivery. But with todays electronic systems one COULD tame a 500cc 2 stroke to not be a highside bucking rodeo crash monster. Even more so for a 800cc 4 stroke. But 230HP on tap to any rear wheel 4 stroke or 2 stroke would take some serious skill to pilot without technology. I wounder what an expert would say on the subject of 230HP without traction control every other technical advantage now being used to find that extra 10th of a second?.

very well, ban electronics and go to 500cc fourstrokes? lol
I still see a lot of crashes and broken bones btw...
whatever, it's not gonna happen.
Just like to see riders fight with their machines, as well as eachother.
What'll be next, servo steering? ABS?

I'm going back to something being discussed a little earlier in the thread, but I was a little late joining,so here goes.
I have a little bit of a hard time believing that Honda would have a hard time developing a successful functional pneumatic valve system. They've been in Formula One with that style of engine since 2002(?). Now I realize that that aspect of their race program is also in a serious rebuilding effort following serious underperformance this year as well, but if they are really that serious about getting the bikes where they need to be,why not retask a couple of engineer from the F1 program to help get this new RC212 engine where they want it to be before the season starts.

the F1 and bike racing may be operating differently ... anyhow their formula 1 perfomance is currently crap ... so may be it is time for them to find out which one between the two tech teams could come up with a better design ...

Well I do realize that their F1 performance is terrible at the moment, but you'd think that with 5+ years of pneumatic valve technology under their belts, the F1 engine program engineers could at least be of some help. At the very least they could slide the design under the noses of the F1 design team and say "So what do you think of this?" and have them look it over for a couple days to see any glaring design flaws. And besides,as far as I know,Honda F1's problem this year wasn't engine failures,it was that the chassis wasn't up to snuff. They could do much worse than going to their own/any F1 engine design team for help with it.

Perhaps Honda should re-invent the sleeve valve motor I am not sure if the patent has run out yet, but metellurgy has improved out of sight in the last 80 years and would overcome many valve bounce problems if set correctly,,,,,or perhaps try the Australian Waggot valve system,,,,,,,,,Oh no not something an Aussie has invented if this system was adopted the critics could have a field day Aussie bashing if it failed, we won't even talk about the Aussie Miller system although I believe the Chinese have bought it out right,,,,,,bloody Aussies know alls

The sleeve valve system was a good option in WW2 aircraft engines but it produces a lot of friction,
I doubt you can rev over 14000 with it. ;)
There are electromagnetic valves in developpment, no camshafts needed,
but it will take time for these things to come.
It is amazing that pneumatic valve springs already find such whidespread use, means they're getting to grips with it.
Not a practical solution for roadgoing bikes or cars though.

this is bke racing - injury or the risk of it goes with it.
back in the 500 era, guys would come to 500cc from 250cc and be 1.5 secs off the pole for MONTHS. Even further away on degraded race tyres. Im talking world champs like pons, ballington or repeated race winners like garriga, the sarrons, etc etc... it d take em at least a season and a couple broken bones to be on the same second as the frontrunners.
Now anyone , and not even the 250cc dominators can come in and throw a lap 0.5 secs from pole. That is wrong . Wayne Rainey must be saying i could ve raced 20 years later and have more wins and mobility

It seems that all the Japanese manufacturer (except Yamaha)have chosen for pneumatic valves.. Bit strange that Yamaha has a different vieuw tough. I wonder where they come up with because they have the "weakest" engine at the moment, so major improvements are required.
Did Honda took a gamble? If they haven't learned from 2007 they will be beaten again. Remeber that Ducati haven't sit still.
I can't wait for next week, for the GP8 will be there at Jerez...
