I'm truly disappointed in this sport because anyone with a little common sence can see it is going to the dogs this way.
They are making 800 four strokes act like 250 two strokes with traction control and slipper clutch,
launch control and anti wheelie settings. You don't really know who is the best rider anymore as you need to be an ICT expert to decypher the systems they're running.
You can't hail the king without hailing the programmer, high tech industry in his country and globalisation.

the 800cc era requires a good onboard computer that doesn't rattle about too much in the corners

Good point and I agree. The Duc is making a lot more horse power then the other bikes so Stoner has the power to really slide the bike. Did you notice when Nicky turned down his traction control he became a full second faster? You can still slide and throw the 800s around, but they are fare tamer then the 990cc. It is going to be very interesting to see how Rossi adapts to the BridgeStones. One thing I do not understand is why Yamaha is not going the pneumatic valve route that seems to be working. Anyone have a clue?

Nicky was 2006 world champion. It requires an almost comical amount of self delusion to suggest that he is clogging up a works bike.

I'm not so sure that the 800cc era requires the smooth riding style that common wisdom dictates is needed. Watching Casey Stoner manhandling that Ducati convinces me otherwise.

Next season will be interesting for sure to see, in no particular order: If Honda and Michelin can step up with a competitive package (I think they will), if Rossi can take the title again - this time on Bridgestones (I think he can), and Melandri pushing Stoner on the other factory Ducati.

I'm not a Hayden fan, but on the 990cc he was coming into his own. Hayden is adapting to the 800cc. I think if Dorna didn't pull an "F1" and mess with the Motogp Formula, Hayden would have been a powerful force this year. Seriously, look at his Riding Style. Anyone who has been on a power machine knows that when it comes to that much power, you have to throw "being smooth" out the window and just ride the living daylights out of the machine. Now that the 800cc era (or error) is here, its harder for someone with a Dirt Bike/Superbike "slide into every turn" riding style to change over to a smooth 250cc precision riding style. Don't believe me? Ask Colin Edwards or Loris Capirossi.

I don't agree with your views on Nicky but I do believe 2008 is his last year at the official works team.

Maybe Hond are backing the wrong horse - ever since Nicky Hayden has been riding for them they have struggled - perhaps they should have moved him aside into a satelite team and made a bold move with their riders and not the bike. How many more years is he going to clog up a works ride just because he is american and honda need to sell bikes in america.

Having been dominant for too long, honda is arrogant and has got too much hubris. I hope they will get it wrong again next year, so that they can be brought down to earth and be taught a lesson in humility. Indeed I hope they will never be dominant again. Sod off honda!
