All your hard work is not in vain Nicky. Keep it up. We all notice that. When the tenure's over many manufacturers will want your services, and hopefully things will get going again.

Well, I'm a product designer and have worked on CAD/CAM for quite
a few years, I still doesn't feel that I have more to say on such a forum.
The problem as Morgue mentioned here is that a lot of development
is does by rapid prototyping and simulations/ FEM. The problem then
is that the results of FEM is totally depends on the input one put
in these simulations. By the end one must build the parts and try
them on "the real world". If one lack time you can risk fiasco's such
Honda and Yamaha had this year. Ducati have been testing early
parts earlier and had much less problems.

Is it a mandatory requirement that everyone who works with CAD/CAM are all condescending buttholes, with absolutely no idea how to spell, or construct a simple, error free sentance?

Mr Syntax, if your gonna make such a bold statement, then you should use a spell checker. Better yet, learn to spell yourself. You spell it SENTENCE, not sentance. How damn embarrassing. I couldn't care less if someone spelled a word wrong, or got their grammar wrong. As long as you understand what the person is trying to say, it's good enough. That's what communication is all about. Let's not forget this is the internet, not everyone has English as their first language. Even if English is your mother tongue, I still don't care how many spelling or grammatical errors you make.

I agree with you Guy and I am not hailing the simulations,
after all it starts and ends with humans, right? Luckily ;-)
It is a myth that it's pencil and paper and ideas stuck in clever heads, it may sometimes start off like that
but a lot of it is just a mass of 'boring' calculations on fast machines.
Ignoring that is just as dumb as thinking that Japanese don't have a passion for racing.
All factories are under enormous pressure to produce a new winning bike every year
there's not much time for trial and error.

Some of you guys are being exceptionally nieve if you think Ducati use computers or supportive technology any less than the Japanese factories.
Probably the biggest difference is that the Japanese culture is very process driven - incremental changes rather than revolution, the need for concensus and agreement. This all leads to step and step changes, and very slow decision making.
Ducati being much smaller, and less burdened by bureaucracy, can go off at a tangent and try very different things, and take a higher degree of risk. Sometimes that pays off, sometimes not. It worked in 2007. Can they do it again in 2008?
