On this side of the globe the traditional lightbulb is being replaced by low energy versions,
windmills appear left and right and people are made aware of what's going on with the globe.
In this light it is completely and utterly stupid to burn a trainload of oil to hold a fancy nightrace
especially if it is to disguise that the real audience consists of ten dromedaries, a fenek and handfull of desert rats.

Sorry, I thought this was a MotoGP article related forum. Not tree huggers inc.

You can't watch any motorsport and then complain because all of a sudden a race is going to be held at night under lights. Motorsport never does the environment any good whatsoever, so to complain about the addition of lights for one race is a bit silly!

A bit like Paul Newman..... He claims to drive a Toyota Prius..... but owns his own race team for ****sake!!!!!

A night race is the least of the worlds problems

We are all hypocrits when it comes to consuming, it starts with recognizing it.
I don't care what you think of me or call me.
I'm not here to preach just think they go too far with their crap nightscheme,
if you want the racing to be banned in the future this is the way to go about it.

Mossop you could be right that some riders may go better at night or perhaps worse.Having raced Solo Speedway for 30+plus years under good and bad lighting(please I am not trying to big note myself just making a point)I was not the same rider of a night as I was in daylight, riders that flogged me at night I could beat in daylight on the same track, strange thing was I should have been slower during daylight as the tracks dried out and were much slicker/slippery I went to eye specialists they could find nothing wrong,I used optic devices to no avail I just was not the same rider at night,we may see some strange things happen at Qatar could be interesting.I have changed my ID for this post

Morgue don't you argue that the two-stroke smaller classes should stay? The two-stroke engines that burn oil with the fuel?

I was really looking forward to the nuance of a nightrace, but Morgue makes some interesting points... the whole illuminated water thing is fascinating... now I couldn't care less about a night race, but I'm really eager to see the underwater test!

Great angle Jawa,
I think that you are right, there may be a night or day difference in performance from riders, another factor: when at night the air is cooler and denser and gives different engine performance. Interesting too: at the 24 hours le Mans car race the lap times at night are actually faster than at daytime...
Some people have night vision problems of their own, this can indeed be a factor too.
Great bike the JAWA, always had heaps of respect for speedway riders. My favourite was ice speedway though (also on JAWA's)
damn dangerous with the long spikes, real heroes!
:)

Hi num,

Yes I agree, two strokes are dirty machines. not only because of the oil but also because of unwanted losses of mixture when charging the cylinder just before compression. Dornas 'solution' to this is to phase them out, in 2011 the 250's will be replaced by 600cc fourstrokes.
I think this is a shame because there are new developments like DI (direct injection) that make two strokes much cleaner and when implemented the whole world could benefit from pioneering this technique.
Aprilia is already selling scooters with DI, it is not that far away. There are also working examples of two strokes with ceramic parts that need no oil to run.

Peace ;)
