Quick straw poll, does ANYONE want traction control for their road bikes? I don't!

I'd love to see the bikes allowed slipper clutches and that's about it! Forget traction control, launch control, anti wheelie control, etc. Let's see some good ol' fashioned RACING! I want to see drama, I want to see powerslides!

Christ! Even F1 is banning stuff again! :?

MOTOGP » Honda one-two as 2007 concludes - but...

Repsol Honda scored an impressive one-two during the final day of 2007 testing, at Jerez in Spain on Thursday - but with its 'old' machine.

TC and ABS on roadbikes are a very good thing. But only BMW and Honda propose it on their streetbikes. BMW didn't need to be in MotoGP or WSBK to understand it's importance. Even my old 70hp bike at 2°C was slipping and sliding at WOT and under these conditions you can never outbreak an ABS bike under reflex-like conditions 100% of the time. The TC discussion is, at the moment, unrelated to racing.

TC is, like on a roadbike, saving you, to some extend, from crashing while on the limit. Stoner is good example how fast you can be if you "blindly" trust electronics. It's the same as driving fast into a curve with a modern car believing that ESP,Airbag and ABS will save you from crashing it.

Very true Harryx,
the problem with street cars is that people drive with less attention (or even faster) because of these gadgets.
They actually increase the risk again doin that, even though their car is being marketed as safe.
People get more 'detached' from their vehicle.

In the end the electronics on streetbikes or cars are a good thing, saving you from your own "incompetence" in a difficult situation. Hardly anyone will, except slow joe ;) perhaps will argue against it.

Only in racing these "safety"-features are purposely used to run at the physical limit of the bike! In fact you need to force the bike over the limit to run active TC to allow the system to control the bike at this limit which may be in reality at 120% of one rider's skill (Stoner) and 102% of another (Rossi ;)). If the system fails though, nothing is perfect", the rider is quickly at 150% of his skill and breaks his neck. Good and Bad

Refering to Stoner's "high-side" in Jerez?????

I was referring to cars, not to an accident.
But anyway, we expect racers to be in control of their bikes don't we,
us mere mortals may need some help to stay on the road ;)

Thanx SuzukiBoy, very interesting read,
Good to see he gets a bike that fits him and his riding style, he really deserves it ;-)
btw Rossi was accused not actually fined (the $58 dollar he talks about) because he really lives in London.
Same thing with Capirossi, in august 2007 the Italian tax office accused him but he really lives in Monaco
and owns no property in Italy.

The questrioner is pretty disrespectful towards Valentino Rossi ('hysteria'),
good to see that Nicky shows his respect to the seven times world Champion when trying to answer it.

I tend to agree there have been some amount of "hysteria" this year..
He can't have the best bike and win the WC every year.

Btw, I'm NOT a Rossi hater!
He has given me many good moments through his years of racing :)

I've watched the GP's since 86 and have seen many races where the leader just runs away. Stoner doing that is nothing new..

And, yeah, Nicky seems like a cool guy.
Usually not blaming others, just saying he has to work harder himself..
