One thing I notice and admire about Champions like Rossi and Michael Schumacher is their humble assessment of a situation and their gratitude towards the team. I hope both Rossi and Stoner recover before next test.

After being an impressive second fastest on only his second day with Bridgestone tyres, Valentino Rossi slipped to eleventh after a painful end to 2007 at Jerez on Thursday.

Hi Gina, Just to try and answer your question. The GP8 will probably be the first motogp development project Stoner has been involved in from conception to deliverable. Rossi once made a point that Ducati, like Honda are very much engineering driven (hence his switch to Yamaha) so how much input Stoner would have, who knows?! Too much speculation on here over who is a good development/setup rider and who is not. At the end of the day all that goes into the history books is who wins races and championships! For example, Colin Edwards, supposedly one of the best development riders and what as he won?

Stoner needsd a very well tuned front suspension cause he is a front suspension rider. If you look closley you will see minimal front end dive when hard on the brakes. LCR had a poor front suspension and no tech verified by checa when he left the team. At these speeds that is what gives you the confidence to ride like Stoner did. Ducati is known for being a stiff or hard bike to turn requiring counter steering which stoner does well. Wayne rainey said it at Leguna and I had always thought that Stoner was turning his bike quick in and out better than most at the time cause he had confidence now the compromise is going to set in, the same tactics may not work with the 08 as with the 07

Morgue,
I have heard conflicting reports about the way to go for yamaha, apparently Rossi was pushing for the pneumatic valve engine, however after building the thing & testing it to me it looks if Yamaha have decided in favour of the old engine.

We all know that the Kawasaki was one of the fastest bike through the speed traps this year so there is certainly nowt wrong with the inline 4, what's interesting here is Yamaha have got the grunt in this current engine, their problem is fuel & management.

Rossi also commented on the Bridgestone tyres, he said that they tend to use a harder compound than the Michelin but the yamaha's power delivery is fairly aggresive on the Cont..

back tyre,
they need to slightly adopt the settings to stop the tyre being eaten up on race distances.

However they know that there is way more to come from the bike & surely the 08 spec bike will be better than this years bike.

Also let's not forget Rossi has one of the best crew cheifs in the pit's, if any team can bring the bike on they can.

There was an interesting article from the head of engineering of Yamaha, describing the how and why's
but I forgot where it's at
He basically said that the reason for dropping the pneumatic valve spring engine was excessive fuel consumption,
not mechanical problems. The 21 liters are really hampering development (as Ducati stated too).
The V4 was not giving more advantages either so they go for more torque and 'rideable' power.
Surely hey have to 'play around' with the settings to suit the Bridgestones, they will run harder ones in january at Sepang
(where it's hotter) and can do a race simulation for chacking that all important tyre life.
And test qualifiers to beat Michelin

Agree matilda...stoner too young to have been able to develop much -which doesnt tell us what he will do in the future.we dont know... as for edwards, thats what he will be known for then - if not winning, then developing - which will help some winner out there sometime. It does have its own importance - the developing. what i think is good about edwards is that he is happy whatever it is...

Test Tyres to beat Michelin hey Morgue, he,he, ha,ha, I hope so, at least they now have another leathal weapon in their ****nal of development riders in fact Rossi is considerd one of the best, even some riders are saying Michelin have lost the best they had.

And yes I had read the same thing that engineers could not see any major improvement with a pneaumatic valve engine over the one they currently use so i guess what is the point you may as well stick with what you know best & just keep plugging away, Ducati have managed to sort it so surely Yamaha can do it too.

It looks to me as if Yamaha know exactly what they need to do to rectify the situation.

yes Nigel I was going to say test qualifuers to beat Michelins because the only good thing Michelin baked this year were qualifying tyres. In a way it's weird that the development is currently steered or limited by fuel consumption, reducing the fuel from 23 to 21 liters seems like an academic measure but it does result in factories trying to make engines that are sp**** while having a high power output.

Hi Gina,
I agree, Edwards seems to be the happiest man in MotoGP, really enjoying his job while making some good bucks ;-)
from the Poncharal interview on MCN I gathered that he may even consider to stay longer than just 2008.
He's got my blessing I think he's a fantastic guy :)
