Stoner with the #1 plate is questionable. Yes he deserves it for the truly incredible season that he had and should use it for the testing sessions, but having it for the 2008 season will make him look foolish as he will NOT win the championship, just ask Hayden.

Very true Penno,

but he was hugey popular with the public, I think that made the difference (and the fact that he stuck to the same number),
his goodbye was an emotional happening and the number banning was a part of that.
Don't get me wrong, Schwantz was a fantastic racer,
for me the way Wayne Rainey left the scene was way more dramatic...

Top 10 ever

I'd buy that Schwanz is close but just misses the cut for the top 10 ever.

I'm not sure all the riders Penno lists should be there either tho.
All great, no argument. Best *ever*? Not so sure.

As for Stoner putting the #1 plate on - He gets my respect.
Its akin to painting a target on his leathers. Sure everyone would be out to beat him anyway, but its kind of as if he was saying 'I AM number 1' which makes it more embarrassing if he is beaten.
So part of me hopes if beaten its 'cos he, like Hayden, was against machinery his own bike couldn't go toe to toe with. Trouble is if the bikes are so mismatched in 2008 MGP is in deep ****

I say well done to Stoner for following tradition and placing the No 1 on his bike as past legends have done.

I wonder why Hayden was not howled down in 07 for putting the No 1 plate on his bike, Lorenzo did the same thing last year, how rude of him. Oh it seems like another pathetic Stoner bash by the usual crowd of sore losers on here.

Seems only the arrogant riders, who think they are bigger of than the sport, don't keep with old traditions.

How many on a grid is considered a full grid? please bro57 or anyone who knows I hadnt noticed it dropping off. Ahh Wayne Rainey, I was about 18 when that happened, I was completely gutted. I fancied the pants off him. It was bad enough to know about it but I wish I hadnt been watching it.

My history with motogp comes and goes. parents watched it when I was young so I did to then I stopped watching it, I took a personal interest in it in later years then I stopped. then I got married and hubby watched it so that got me back into it. This is why there are like big chunks that I know nothing about. I do like the bikes I always have but just not very consistantly, thats why all the dippy questions now and again :D

"stoner No.1 - thought that was a brave move and someone out there from wolfcreek city mentioned something about the Ego, so thought it was related...."

Funny, I thought it was tradition for the champion to take the number 1 plate. Of course, some riders with an inflated sense of self choose to keep "their" number and then we end up with this sentimental nonsense about reserving numbers.
