Stoner with the #1 plate is questionable. Yes he deserves it for the truly incredible season that he had and should use it for the testing sessions, but having it for the 2008 season will make him look foolish as he will NOT win the championship, just ask Hayden.

Oh, in the heydays it was up to around 30 bikes or more,
but back then you had real privateers that ran low budget bikes.
I quickly went to paying heaps of money for 'leasing' a mediocre Honda 500 threecylinder that was dead slow compared to the works bikes and out of the window it went... the money and to a certail extent the sport.
An Idiots Guide to MotoGP (written on the brink of the 2007 season) gives an interesting insight in costs and politics:

Very true pto,

It used to be customary for riders to choose a 'personal' number in the high digits (maybe Sheene as excption) so it did't interfere with the system, still they all have to ask for permission. In the end it is their personal choice to ride with a high number, it gives them a 'signature' but it looks a bit silly when you see them listed from low to high...

it would be nice if the riders used plate numbers according to their previous year performance. if i remember it correctly, the AMA dirt track used to have the following system, #1 for previous year champ, all single digits are reserved for former champions, it would be easier for fans to keep track with their performance. but now every one is trying to copy NASCAR. :?

Thanks for the Team KR info, Morgue. When or if they get an engine deal then I feel they may have left it too late for development/testing etc and will probably end up using half of next seasons races as test sessions. It's not the first time they have done this I don't think planning is their strong point? Maybe better to sacrifice the 2008 season and start planning for 2009 NOW. I don't really see the point of shoving a Ducati engine in only to come under team orders if they were ever to beat the factory - unlikely I know! It's not really the spirit of racing and I wouldn't have thought it was part of KR snrs mantra either.

why do people think the #1 is bad luck?
Agostini 7 titles in a row, with #1,well he wore it for 6 years but you know what i mean,
Doohan 5 titles
hailwood 4 titles
Surtees and Duke etc.
Is Stoner the new Agostini?? Will Stoner win 7 titles in a row, what do you think?

Hey, I'm not saying it's bad luck, Stoner thoroughly deserves the #1 plate and if he stays injury free then he will continue to dominate motogp in the future. ;)

I think stoner is the new 0.29 rossi :) so far. which would make him a bit lesser of an Ago. :)

Well, imposer,
the people around here that know me would know I would never say such a thing about Stoner so you gave yourself away again. Instead of copying my name why don't you put your energy into writing something sensible?

If this is your only contribution to this place then you are a cheap ****
