are we all so lobotomised in thinking that youth is all that counts ? Do artists have to stop painting, or making music just cos they are 28 ? Why can't riders saty for as long as they feel fit enough to do so ? isn't troy bayliss still able to kick most riders, even if aged 38 ? Didn't he win a MotoGP race at 36 ?
It's only the media circus that wants you to believe a champ is out when older than 26...

Well for one I'm very pleased & excited about the prospect of having Mr Rossi racing in Moto Gp for the next 5 years, infact it's just made my day!

I don't really care who he rides for really so long as he wins, we all know he will do his best what ever he's on.

You would think that Rossi's 5 more years in the sport will net him even more win's titles & he will leave the sport as the best Motogp rider ever & his records will take some beating.

i think 5 years is something rossi said to give other the idea that, thats the approximate amount of time he wants stay in the sport and develop it more.it may be 4 or 6 years as well,& give others that are in it a hard time - not for the sake of it ( for te fun of it -yes). its something like a personal goal involving contribution to the sport.
it is good to see his determination - that he has more to give :)
unfortunately for others - as that will halt them in repeating their results. and about others: i can only see pedrosa as being his serious rival over a longer period of that 5 year time. hope im wrong - would be good to see a cpl other riders try to level up to rossi...

Fantastic the man was born to ride a bike, hopefully in the next year or two the TC will be banned and we will once again see the master doing his thing. No one can ride a bike (not a computer ) like him .....

"new guys" that have only been in MotoGP last couple years or 2008 as rookies.

never been a Rossi fan, probably cuz he is too damn good at what he does.
But I see him finishing even worse than 3rd in 2008.
Tires are not going to be his solution to get him back on top.
He will then leave Yamaha cuz they didn't give him the bike of all bikes to win with.
I just don't see him winning another championship.
Too much new talent out there and coming up the ranks.
Not popular cuz I'm not a Rossi fanboy but how I see it.

And actually I see Hayden winning another, 2006 was not a fluke. Nicky is the hardest working man in MotoGP. Would love to see Melandri too. Just too much talent today.

Although Stoner will be the one to beat Rossi will be the bench mark. A 5 year commitment is along time I wonder if his hunger will last,, sometimes this hunger can just disappear I am sure he is smart enough to get out if this happens and not hang around the ring like an old boxer, in the meantime lets cheer him and boo him its all part of the spectical and appreciate why we boo and cheer him.

right on Saltbush,
I just have a feeling that another CS maybe out of reach. But I HOPE I am wrong. He is the reason I watch, and if nothing else he will give us spectacular racing and display of unreal bike control

Five more years? Man, it's gonna be painful to watch. Although I reserve the right to be wrong, I think that Rossi has already received his last title. I'm sure we'll see more race victories from the good doctor, I don't think we'll see anymore titles. I hate to agree with Slow Joe, but I too think traction control should be banned. It's tantamount to steroids in my opinion. I don't think gizmos should have anything to do with deciding who goes fast and who works their *** off to no avail. I hope it happens, but I'm afraid that will end up being wishful thinking. I just hope for the sake of his legacy that Rossi hasn't prematurely committed himself to something that he may not be able to.

Sorry to dissapoint all of the Rossi Haternation out there but there are plenty of one and done riders out there, especially concerning title winners. Criville, Schwantz, Kenny Jr. Dont think because Rossi had a two season slide that his reign is over by any means. Not to take anything away from Casey but youve only got one just like Nicky and the other riders named here. It takes a serious love of competition and skills and equipment to win multiple championships, something only Rossi, Doohan, Rainey, and Lawson have done recently in this era. The others have stepped up their game which means Rossi will now do the Same. Youve only served to corner the animal. The Championship is now ON!

Rossi racing for another 5 years is great news. He's still the benchmark that others must surpass if they want to win the championship. Two guys have done it, and may well do it again, let's see if anyone else can step up.

Doohan was competitive to the end of his career as were many others. Being spit off of a wicked 500cc 2 stroke one too many times is no longer the problem it was for Mick, so as long as Rossi has the competitive urge then there's no reason he won't be able to go another 5 years, or more.

I maintain that Val's still utterly capable of winning the championship. It's great that now we've got a few guys who are also capable that he can race with.

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon here but I agree with some of the comments about Rossi not winning any more titles... I think that he will win more races, no doubt about that, but there are so many riders that are at a similar level now that it's impossible to just say Rossi's going to win. I'd like to see Hayden win it again, but to be honest, I can't see past Stoner on that Ducati missile...
