are we all so lobotomised in thinking that youth is all that counts ? Do artists have to stop painting, or making music just cos they are 28 ? Why can't riders saty for as long as they feel fit enough to do so ? isn't troy bayliss still able to kick most riders, even if aged 38 ? Didn't he win a MotoGP race at 36 ?
It's only the media circus that wants you to believe a champ is out when older than 26...

Once he sees his win ratio starting to get diluted by not winning more than 50% of the races he will reconsider the 5 years.

I think this comment is to just get the media of his back.

Anybody that has done ANYTHING at in a compeditive event knows when the hunger goes whether it is 25,35,45,years of age it just goes am I am sure Rossi will know when is the time for him to go,,,,,,sure it is nice to have run in a vintage event and find a nice comfortable spot where you are not getting in anyones way and nobody's getting in your way,(first, last or in between) you may still have the compeditive streak but the hunger has gone, I have seen interviews with Doohan and Beattie and both said the hunger went, so it does happen no matter who you are.

I doubt that his intention is to get the media off of his back. Rossi's media-savvy enough to know that that's just not gonna happen - no matter whether he wins or loses.

As has already been noted, Rossi is responsible for much of the growth and media attention to the sport. It's a good thing if he doesn't win half of the races - heck, it's a BETTER thing if nobody wins 50% of the races.

Honestly, I think the guy really relishes a challenge and that's why he's staying. It just kind of bums me out that he decided that he had to switch to Bridgestone in order to be competitive instead of sticking with Michelin and working it out.

Look, everybody in moto gp is good at that level, but its the hunger, drive, willingness to work harder than anybody and experience that have backed Rossi's decision to stay. You have to have a Rossi just to motivate everybody else to raise the level of competition. Im glad hes staying just as all of the Rossi haternation are glad he's staying. He gives the haternation someone to rail against when their chosen rider(s) dont have the drive to succeed as an excuse. Remember this is a competition, they dont give it away folks!

i'd say rossi loves to battle ( and win in it ) and the lost last two championships did increase his drive and hunger, so i guess that had to happen.

Maybe Vale thinks he needs 5 whole years to redeem himself after all the trouble he has made for everybody this year.
He's going to win races but WC are'nt in reach of Yamaha, So he wants to ride for Suzuki or Kawasaki, He dissrespected Ducati in Australia in 2004 so unless he expects Ducati to bend over for him Ducati dont need him, nor would the hardcore Ducatisti.
The groupies dont know the difference so what do they care as long as the monkey dances.
Injuries are something new to Vale so that monkey aint going away soon.
Motogp will die if Vale wins the next 5 WC, why will peaple watch a known outcome, except the groupies.
Just remember its not how good you are its how you get there
