It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

No Electronics Aids means Stoner will become the No 1 crasher, instead of No 1 rider; What! you don't believe me, see his testing of the 2008 Ducati, it had no aids on and he promptly returned to his crashing style. For his and other new riders, I say leave the electronics on for their safety. Otherwise we see Rossi being Champ till he is mid-50 all gray and wrinkled. Motogp should not panic, this is the most exciting sport, with or without modern technology. We must must continue to advance though. So to hell with rules that will hold back technology and tell the oldtimers get with the program or go fishing.

Hey Saltbush, sounds like a nice plan,
you don't have to build a high wall between Ace27 and me, he will try to elbow me off the track anyway so
just make a low fence, like 1 meter 55 high, about his height,
I will throw a piece of raw kangaroo meat over it every odd hour.
Oh and something else, we must be on different tyres else there won't be discussion

Absolutely an idiotic idea!!! MotoGP was created to have competing motorcycle builders construct a machine to show all their wares & best technology. The whole point is to develop something on your motorcycle to best your competition - engine, frame, suspension, geometry, ELECTRONICS, etc. (yes, the rider is a big part, but an excellent machine and an average rider typicall beats an amazing rider with average equipment .... see Val Rossi & Casey Stoner this year for example). This goes against their original philosphy. However, tires are not developed in-house and are a seperate company. A control tire would then make it a manufacturer vs. manufacturer competition.

I think the sooner clever electronics are standardised/banned the better.

The whole essence of what makes motorsport exciting for me is the combination of skill and competition.

Electronics dull both of these because the influence of rider skill is reduced (how can that be a good thing?) and the competition becomes an invisible one between electronics engineers (rather than visible on track).

I am mildly interested at best in the competition between electronics engineers and passionately interested in the race spectacle.

If you had told me 10 years ago that I would completely cease watching/following formula one, I would never have believed you.......

Saltbrush. Not Yorkshire, Lundunur luv a duk (better?). I just try to adapt my accent to Yorkshire to gain more respect from you guys (insecure you know).
If you go ahead with Salty M racing, give us guys a look in. As you will have ACE 27 on your team he will always win (or be up stoners jacksie, by way of a change ;)) and you know we are really good at coming second (at best) so it seems like a team made in heaven.
Glad to hear the chooks are safe and well. It's raining here so I might be a good idea to do some bottom fencing of my own.
Anyway, I'm going back to Blighty for Christmas so have a good one Morgue, M, Saltbrush, et al. "maybe it's because I'm a londoner, that I........."

Seems like the common "wisdom" from the fans is to trash the electronics, claim that 2007 was boring (because red consistently won instead of yellow consistently winning), and yet everyone forgets the comments regarding electronics by two very fast MotoGP riders who speak the truth. Both Edwards and Hayden have said publicaly that the way to go the fastest is to turn the electronics down, and the last bit of speed is purely due to rider skill. So just leave the rules alone, let the riders decide how much to turn it down, and quit whining.

ABS was developed for airplanes, not with F1. ESP was developed by BOSCH not by Ferrari in F1. F1 could be a development platform, but it is dead. It is completely fenced in by stupid rules.

Keep the competition alive in MOTOGP; keep it simple and ONLY adress the critical issues (like TC) WITHOUT adding generic rules (like a standard ECU).

Trusting the manufacturers is important, as it is part of their sporting spirit and reputation which should NOT be put to question immediately by standardising. If Ducati or Honda would be "cheating" ,remove them from the championship. They would have lost their reputation and would suffer immensly. Just check race data. TC is impossible to hide!!

Bah, humbug. Leave the formula alone. It''s supposed to be prototype. Control ANYTHING is anathema.

i think that would a good idea because the motogp is going to get boring. i think there are to many rider aids. it always used to be ur right hand that contolled rider skills not electronics etc. it is taking away. how good a rider is because traction control etc are spoiling it .remember the 2 stroke 500''s and how good the racing used to be and they had nowt. something needs to be done. look at wsb last year was awesome.1 tyre rule made the racing closer and more exciting . help
cheers
