It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

If they just increase the fuel load it would be simpler. Right now the electronics wont let you do anything that increases fuel consuption so the rider makes the chequred flag, thats how tight the fuel margin is that the teams have sorted out the TC to serve as fuel saver. If there was say another 1.5 liters they would not worry about running out of fuel or conserving it till the end. That way TC could be a background peice of kit good for say 50% TC abillity as a standard rule. Let teams design there own stuff as it is possible to monitor system to ensure know rider uses more than 50% TC. Still get a tech spin off and safer wet races where TC should be used and developed for us daily riders

bad idea. if this were implemented would a small company like ducati be able to have been further advanced than the japanese bikes?????? i think if a bike like ducati can beat the financially bigger companies its a good thing. lets not become like formula 1 because if it does i will certainly stop watching..........

It's quite impossible to monitor the various systems the teams are running from the outside and impose a percentage upon them
unless they run the same system and the data readout is openly accessible for the organisers at all time.
Even then it is ridiculous to say 'u can only use 50% of it', it simply doesn't work that way.
Anyway the factories will never agree on this so it's just a means of getting a discussion going by Ezpeleta
and see what ways of self regulating they come up with.
Upping the fuel load will lead to even more powerfull bikes, it's a vicious circle.

jh;A Londoner ahhh are you a Coster.Regarding"The Team I thought"Team Salty Smith" would be the way to go,the reason being Smith is the most common name in the world therefore all the Smith's on the planet would watch MotoGp thinking they were related to"The Team"thus building Dorna's Ratings.Regarding ECU's I went to the Wrecking Yard to-day there is a very low Mileage Mazda there, the unit looks as new if I can get it at the right price at least one"Team"bike will run an ECU.As you are going back to Blighty for the festive season I send you and those you care for best wishes, may "YOUR GOD" be with you.

The restrictions place on fuel (limits) only served to increase the need for electronics electronics and Ducati manage this better than the rest,All credit to them.

The other factor is MotoGP is the premier motorcycle racing class and the situation should not arise where Superbikes are faster and more technologically advanced

I believe we need some control over the electronics,FORMULA 1 will find a way to do this and MotoGP should follow.

I am currently watching all the 2007 races again. If you watch closely you can see that rider skill is as necessary as it has ever been. These guys are on the absolute limit at incredible pace.
If they seriously are going to consider a control ECU then who will test it and on what bike? What is going to be the R&D program to get it race ready? And then what if say Honda do it on their V4 and it doesn't work on the Yamaha IL4? Or visa versa.
If Rossi wins this year will you ALL be happy for him to lose the advantage next year? After all the ONLY reason this is even being discussed is because the result was not as it was supposed to be which was Rossi and Pedrosa battling for the title.

That's what I mean Parker, it's not feasable to control it in an easy way.
So either you forbid components (like launch control, anti wheelie etc. or the lot.
If you forbid components it will be difficult to check as you have to go into the various software the teams use.
2007 was a season with too many changes and a surprise winner. His fans are happy so good for them.
let's see what 2008 brings, I hope not more offtrack discussion than this year

Just A thought; what happens if the "Standard ECU" that Ezpeleta draws out of a hat makes all the bikes go like camels is there then a scamble back to makers choice, or will the bikes be forced to run with the lucky dip draw???

Just ban TC , no standard ECU's as it won't work for all , seems the manafacturers can tell the firing order of their rivals bikes by the sound alone ,so surely Ezpeletra and his cronies could easily police TC etc , seems quite simple to just ban it and any doubts at the end of a race can be checked by the scrutineers .Bring back the 990's and all will be happy in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine being given the task of developing and producing a 'standard ECU', that will be a tough one...
