It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

Silliest idea ever!

There''s already a boring series (F1) why add another?

if they proceed in "controlling" the electronics what would be next?

I used to think that races were about (and) progress.
If it''s just for the show they should come up with more exciting ideas eg just give everybody the same bike, preferably a crappy one, not only the "show factor" will skyrocket but the same time you won''t have expensive high profile (i.e expensive) riders since non would last more than a couple seasons, and new riders would be coming in all the time (not like last year that there was only one new rider...)

I'm naming 500cc because it is a far more logical choice then 800,
the 1000cc (990) stemmed from the crude mathematics that a 500 twostroke gives the same power as a 1000 fourstroke
the 800cc reduction was thought of to favour for Honda, simply put they only had to chop a cylinder off.
Everybody could predict that they soon would be as fast as the 990's, it was amazing that they are already in the first season.
If they had any feeling for motorcycle history 750cc would have been a more logical choice, you see them on the road too.
Reducing to 500cc without electronics will at first produce screaming eagles but they will soon be as fast as the current bikes.

The electronics are complex, there's sensors everywhere, speed, revs, wheelspin, air flow/temp/pressure/humidity, suspension behaviour, lean angle (using a gyroscope for correct measurement), you name it
because they are so difficult to compare it will also be difficult to scale down.

Guess it depends on what yu think MotoGP is about. If you think it ii principally a rider''s championship, which I do, you might welcome control electronics, or better yet, totally eliminate electronic aids. But if you think it is a technology championship you will probably be against control ECUs, control tires or anything like that. At the end of the day however it comes down to each fan''s loyalties and if you are a Ducati or Stoner fan (are there really any of those?) right now you don''t want anything to change. If you are a fan of anyother rider or team, you are probably more open to changes.

MotoGP has sunk to the pits, it really has... I was a convert from F1 and after 2007 I'm seriously hunting around for another sport to convert me. Traction control on a motorbike? RUBBISH! Bring back the heroes. LOSE the electronics, bring back the feel of the riders.

I don't want to buy a motorbike with traction control, anti-wheelie or launch control, and I don't want to see them racing either. Simple.

Lets make MotoGP an open formula, any size of engine and electronic control you want, They are prototypes and dont need to have anything in common with road bikes. It would soon sort it self out, and boy would it be fun to watch! :)

Not a bad idea actually Tommo,
Let's do it like this, give riders 21 liters of fuel and tell them: 'take this and try to beat the rest with it over 25 laps on this circuit.'
Then reduce the amount of fuel by one liter a year and see what happens. After all, designers are now saying fuel consumption is one of the key limiting factors.
The whole world will benefit from the lean machines that come out of that competition, MotoGP will be an example to all.... the... wait a minute I am on the 'G' thing again... sorry

Motogp is a prototype class, but it's becoming engineering porn like f1. It's about the racing for me forget the engineers they can watch star trek if they want to watch that sort of thing. If the fan base drops too far due to the gizmos prototypes or not they will be history. I'm engineer myself in another field but you have to realise that if i was left to my own devices you would end up with some super cool stuff. Sadly 99% of people wouldn't be able to relate to it or buy it making it useless and a big waste of money and I'd get the sack.
