It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

I think it's a good thing... seeing how Michael Schumacher, with minimal biking experience, could just jump on and go so close to the times of guys who have been doing this all their life shows something should be done.

The riders who know it's them that make the difference will be all for a standard ECU... those that know the bike had a large part to play will do everything to shout against it by complaining about how unsafe it will make the bikes - I won't mention any names!

The skill of the rider needs to be important - we don't want to see teams lining up in formation on the grid like Formula 1.

I wish they could do it for next year. The past 2 seasons have shown that the manufacture with the best ecu has won. Let''s give it back to the driver. When was the last time you saw them smoking a tire on exit or backing the bike into a corner? Mike

A good reference is Andrea Dovizioso, a newcomer in the premier class, he goes testing on a satellite Honda and gets quite high at the first attempts. Yet he says that his 250cc bike was more exciting and challenging to ride and slams electronics.
These kids main concern is how to set up the TC and the slipper clutch, it is ridiculous.

What's F1?

Seriously, I can't be bothered to watch it even when there's nothing else on.

Nathan mentions Michael Schumacher surprising everybody with his speed on the Ducati. Colin Edwards speculated that it just goes to show how electronics have made it possible for relatively inexperienced (but seriously talented) riders to go almost to the limit. "Almost" being the key word.

It's still going to take a rider of superlative skill and courage to ride these machines to their full potential.

A common ECU would, in my opinion, just be another hurdle to be overcome and bypassed by brilliant MotoGP engineers. Thus making electronics even more of a factor and defeating the stated purpose.

I think everyone knows that racing in Moto Gp has been less exciting in 2007 than recent years. You could say that this is because Ducati took a chance of Casey Stoner and it paid off, or you could say that the change in tyre rules has been highly advantageous to Bridgestone.
All of those things are true, however, for someone who has been attending Grand Prix/Moto Gp races since the age of 5, the most worrying thing about the this season has been and is the size of the grid.
Surely something that would make the racing closer, make sattelite teams feel like being there is worth while and go some way to bring down the astronomical cost of riding in the moto gp class is a great thing?

Most Gp riders have skill and courage, otherwise they would not be there Dirk. I think Colin' assesment was right. Last year Shumacher was no where near those times. Updated system saw updated times for Shumacher. The bikes have to much power to be riden without some electronics. Even for the super skilled like Rossi. We all saw what happened to Pedrobot when he turned off his launch control. Right? I pesonally don't want to see half throttle racing. Simple solution....Go back two years. The future may be the past.

I agree with Baron! It will be a sad day when team KR is off the grid. It was sad when Sito left.
