It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

This needs to happen soon.

Without super technolgy ECUs, Casey Stoner will fall from stardom - and Nicky Hayden/Melandri/Capirossi will rise. I want to see this. It's boring knowing the winner before the start of a race.....

I remember those riders in 2006 with fondness. 2007 was the dullest year yet. We all know Ducati have mastered the ECU. Yes this is 'clever', and yes Ducati should be applauded - but we need competition, surely?

Watching Hayden/Melandri/Capirossi/Rossi will be a better prospect than Mr Stoner, who is rather boring and likes to blame anyone but himself. I think the world has establised Mr Stoner is very good and has a pretty girl. Time for something NEW.

I agree Slow Joe but do you also get the feeling that highsides occur less nowadays or not?

Common ECU means that all manufacturers will have to produce an engine that will fit most the ECU characteristics, which will end in all of them having the same engine. Then you add control tires, you limit the top end of the power band, and you get ... two wheeled F1 racing, boring boring boring...

The Ducati engineers have done a superb work with the GP7 engine, it has obliged the engineers of all other makes to work long hours to try and fill the gap, which was great to follow.

Over winter they are all working like dogs on their 2008 engines, including electronics, and it's exciting to wait for the first 2008 tests...

At the end of the day, it is anyway the best rider who wins!

I hate when non Stoner or Rossi fans have to bash. Should there be electronics?...Yes. Should they control the bike, rider and whole race?...NO! On a side note, Stoner showed flashes of how good he could be in 2006. On a lesser bike.

I agree Lee,
but the electronics seem to make the difference between him sitting on the bike or falling off...

Yes standard ecu will show the elite riders that have naturel fell for the bike and stop anybody but the best just cranking the throttle open and letting the complex electronics sort the traction out, have you noticed that at the start of races they all just sit their with throttles wound wide open because the electronics sort it all out.

I knew it wouldn't take long before someone suggested that Stoner had his great season because of TC. I won't get too into it except to say that last season just about all of his crashes were him losing the front. TC cannot save you from losing the front so obviously TC is not why he's not crashing.

And I guess that is my objection with all of this. People say the racing was boring because of TC and I don't think that was it. It was boring because the Stoner/Ducati/Bridgestone package was dominant and created large margins of victory. If every race last year went to the last lap no one would think twice about the influence of TC.
