It needs to be done , the sport needs to return to the skill of the rider and not the skills of the electronics department to master the machine . Maybe a standard ecu is not the answer , but a ban on all electronic rider aids would be (traction control , anti-wheely ect ).Mr Ezpeleta is right to say this , otherwise we are going to end up with a show like F1 or no show in there case . MOTOGP » Control electronics?

MotoGP may have narrowly avoided the introduction of a control tyre rule for 2008, but Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed that 'control electronics' could be on the horizon.

What does mean if common ECU is aproved. ¿Mid term we would see motogp´ bikes goes into road bikes alike?. So only one chassis supplier next step would be as things seems goes
I think if DORNA autorities wants improve competicion level there are other ways

This is the same issue as the spec tire foolishness. Leave it alone and let them race. May the better team win, whoever it is!

Really bad idea, I think MotoGP has 1-2 years left and it will be surpassed in popularity again by WSBK with the increase in manufacturers headed there. People wish to see a good race with lots of different brands and control electronics will not solve the problem control tire maybe. If they wish to untame the bikes go back to the 990 formula much better and the crap about the bikes being too fast that is not true just look at the corner speeds and lap times of the new 800''s.

The rules are the same for everyone, so its upto teams and riders as it should be..... try riding in the rain without traction control V with it and see who wins hmmmmmmmm :? Having TC as a rider adjustable option would be the best solution and throw another very interesting variable into the equation ;)

I find it amazing that in one breathe we talk about MotoGP being the prototype class, like F1 is with cars. We have seem things from F1 move to road cars over the years , ABS, Traction control, tyre technolgy, just to name a few things.

My thoughts it would be the same with bikes. We are now seeing bikes like the GSXR with different map settings, which the rider can choose according to conditions by the flick of a switch. We are also looking at tyres like the Michelin 2CT which are a duel compound tyre, for road going bikes, a great tyre compared to the P{ilot roads with extra soft compound on the outsides and a harder compound in the centre. Just a few things that have filtered through.

Continued

Motogp is about being at the fore front of motorcycling and technology. I think any moves back to 500, getting rid of electronics, including FI, would really be a backward step. If this was to happen, WSBK would become the premier development and Motogp would become like a historic series.

Lets be honest any top notch rider should be able to adapt to new technology. This talk about moving back to 500's with no electonrics is crap and a move back to the stone age. I wonder if Valentino Rossi had of won the 2007 championship, would we be listining to the same rubbish.

As a rider I am glad of some of the bike developments over the years. I love the Michelin 2CT's, thanks MotoGP

No control electonics but more stringent rules so that we always know where the technology ends and the rider''s skill takes over. Colin Edwards said something like that he expected Michael Schumacher to be quick but getting the last bit of performance out of the bike was the bit that made GP riders special. Let''s hope that MotoGP champions are always special.

Andy

Fair enough, would you also agree there should be a control tyre so no rider has an unfair advantage and therefore it is equal for all riders?

How about a control ECU, which a team pick out of a hat prior to each race and checked after the round so to check it has not been tampered with, again so no one gains an advantage?

Maybe the manufacturers can only run a certain engine configuration with the same amount of Cyl's, same bore and stroke, same V angle, etc, to create an equal series.

As I stated before, would we be having this chat if Valentino won the championship?

I doubt it very much.

Everybody is saying all these runaways and the same person winning every weekend is boring. I agree with that contention but the fact that you're all overlooking history is troubling. Does anybody remember that TWO years ago in 05, Rossi won ELEVEN races. All this whining is only because it's somebody other than the golden boy. Rossi and Yamaha just did a better job that year, just as Stoner and Ducati outdid everybody else this year. Here's an idea to get rid of this boring racing. Ban the winner of each round's race for the rest of the season. The grid's so small now and the calendar so full that we'd only have 1 man standing after the final race. New winner every week and no run away champ
