Bad news for Pedrosa  he was on the pace.
I hope he recovers in time for the Qatar race.

The 800's were indeed intended for "safety, but the problem is corner entry speeds.
On the 990's, it was easier to go into a corner slowly and let the sheer grunt of the bigger engine pull out of a corner. Making a fast lap time was still feasible on the bigger bikes because they made more sheer power...and torque.

The 800's, however, don't have that same amount of low-down power (which we call torque) and as a result, the riders are on the throttle longer in an effort to gain more speed. Resulting from this is substantially higher corner entry speeds, which leads to higher sustained speeds through the corners. No grip is left for braking, unless something else gives...

Its strange to think that a 230+hp bike suffers from a lack of torque, requiring high revs to keep it in the hp zone.

Try being human....gromm You have no idea my boy. ever try'd to keep a smashed up human alive... how about over half a dozon.....

John s got a point. Anyway, why they changed from 990cc to these silly 800s ie beyond me. Probably to make things easier for the electronics ...
