The problem with the M1 is it blows up when they stress the engine to compete with Honda/Ducati top speed.

To the haters calling Rossi 'monkey boy', why? Because he's fun, friendly and one of the best riders ever? Ask yoursef why Rossi as so many fans world wide. Because he's a 'monkey boy' and 'full of excuses'?

He's only lost MotoGP championship twice in the last 2 years? Once because his bike failed multiple times + Elias knocked him off, and Once because the competition had a dominant machine?

Silly boys.

Jimmy, J h, your confusing me, I think were saying almost the same except for the bit where jimmy talks about Rossi being generaly faster, Tecnically Rossi was slower remember Csey won 10 races soooo.... So we agree Rossi was faster in a "few' corners(dont forget Rossi couldnt stick with casey for most of the races...right), What Im saying is, Rossi rode the corner entry @ 110%, Casey 100%...Rossi sacrificed EXIT for ENTRY, Remember Rossi flying in to the corner and going straight on out braking himself. While it looked cool it was wrong BECAUSE....he sacrficed consistency for a stab in the dark so to speak,

It was the only thing he could do. Ofcourse he sacrificed exit as he lacked the drive and speed to get in front on the straights anyway, the Ducaty pulled away at every straight. It may have looked desperate but all he could do was overtake him on the brakes and try and stay ahead in the twisty bits, knowing his Michelins wouldn't last the distance anyway...
But he tried, we saw him pull all the stops on rider ability in 2007. ;)

If he maintained consistent apex speed he might of been closer instead he was trying to fluster Casey into a mistake. Rossi was unaware he would fail at the time, Im just trying to keep this in the context of a racer only and not mind games.
Casey Raced himself not the compertition (in China) While Rossi try'd play with Casey's head and forgot or dismissed racing the bike.
Im hesitent to bring up my experience racing my small 750 against 1000's,(i want to discuss not get into disputes with peaple who demand my name and score card so they can attack me for not being in gp's) but my only chance of beating bigger bikes is with higher corner speeds acheived through a better suspension set up

5kph isn't hard to overcome, particularly with a draft. NASCAR drivers do it all the time, as do sportscar drivers. Aerodynamics will play a part this year.
AND...Rossi stated that this is the goal for the *beginning* of the year.
Given the progression Yamaha made last year, I'd say he's got as Casey's card. Now it's time to see if he can play it...

Yeh sorry for being so snappy

I actually agree on you on that one, but it's called strategy,
something you have to resort too when your equipment is under par.

I agree with you Ace, but I agree with Morgues take on it. Rossi didn't have the luxury of being able to ride his own race and had risk over riding the bike where he could to stay in touch.

Here we go again. Ho hum :)

Valentino Rossi has been mixing it with the best for over a decade now, do you think he ever forgets or dismisses riding a bike?
It's second nature to him. If you outbrake a guy coming into a corner you most of the time enter it on the wrong line,
that means if you have the same speed as your opponent you will exit it the wrong way too, mostly too wide,
which gives the other one the advantadge of taking it back on the inside.
How long you can keep that kind of playing around up mostly depends on your physichal fitness and the state of your tyres,
traction is bound to drop nearing the end of a race. The Michelins dropped of quite early.

Sure its very easy to fall into a tail chasing scenario. I like to think of a strategy as a pre planned thing to keep you on track and focused.
I am keen to see how Vale handles the same problem this year, I think he will go for consistency over anything else, he will be thinking of comming second instead of 3rd in WC.

No I dont think this year will be too different.... :)
