i laugh every time someone mention banning electronics in motorsport.

firstly, electronics are there for all the rides; melandri is on the same bike and is struggling (which to be completely honest has really surprised me). the playing field is level.

secondly, it's like the argument in F1 where people argue that in the 60-70's where we had 4 wheel drift, powerslides etc that the racing was more exciting, and that electronics are to blame. technology moves forward and Dorna/F1 would be sticking their heads in the sand if they didn't embrace these new technologies.

the bottom line is: anything that makes lap times lower is progress. the best riders/drivers will always rise to the top.

Well, imagine on the latest basic cars. Everyone is a turn-key pilot!

Too much throttle? No probs the TC will take over. Woops, a little too fast into the corner understeering? No probs the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) will make the turn for you. Wow, wrong reflex on the brakes? No worries, ABS will make sure with TC and ESP you can still run around the bend...and if even these systems can't do it nomore, well the SRS takes over: Airbag deployed with 5-star crash rating. Just get out and go to the insurance

Really, understanding these active control systems you can override a car and be faster "safer".

The way to ride a GP bike may be comparable. Just do it....

faster and safer maybe but if the sport gets too fast it becomes uncompetitive

The good old bowden cable?

The good old bowden cable is at the psychiatrist with an inferiority complex ;)

Well, in fact it is replaced by a position sensor, a few wires to the ECU with all the torque maps, and a few electronic throttle body actuators. The whole lot working in cohesion with the infamous closed-loop TC system controlling fuel and spark to accurately and instantaneously control the engine torque if needed. At 12000 rpm as smooth as an electric motor...Beautiful???? isn't it??.

You've got to say well done to Ducati for making a fantastic package + it must be said congratulation to Stoner for riding the moden bike so well .Ducati +Stoner hane beat the Japs and there riders in this new era of racing but for me its rubbish bring back tyre smoke lots of sliding and side ways riding its the best + close race this also seems to have disappeared. Is this all to do with TC well i don't know but lets turn it down/off some how and we will see (i know you just can't turn it down or off but not knowing tec stuff but sure somthink can be done )

Well, I guess it depends on where you put your priorities.

I am sure that 2008 will be competitive. But the feeling just isn't the same anymore.

I'm surely too old-fashioned for most of the video generation, but the talent that used to control the bikes is not required anymore to the extend as what it used to be. Until recent systems controlled by the rider became more efficient but also power and tyre performance went up. The rider of the 50s,untill the 00s had to cope with difficulties THEY had to manage.

Now its at another level. You need to make the electronics an extension of yourself when riding like I said below the car. The best can adapt to that too I'm sure...

"You've got to say well done to Ducati for making a fantastic package + it must be said congratulations to Stoner for riding the modern bike so well "

So right!!!

A "Chinese" proverb says: "May you live in interesting times"

Well, are we lucky!!! ;)

Still, a little bit of sentiment resides...although, it will be interesting to see how the "old" foxes play to the new tune, especially THE old fox, DocR :)

("old" meaning in MotoGP terms older than 23 years) ;)

If a regulation ECU(hardware and software tools)is introduced first of all it will increase costs as teams re-write their code to get the most out of what is available with a regulation package. I also suspect that it could initially widen the performance gap between teams with the biggest benefactor being Ducati. The reason I believe this is Ducati is an in-house operation and as such will be able to make changes quicker and better than other teams who are basically outsourced factory operations with possibly different ideas on how things should be done. The structure of Ducati's operation gives them and an advantage over the Japanese factories.

1. If Ducati are making such fantasic TC system, why cant everyone ride it?????
2. Introduction of a single universal style ECU is absolutely ridiculous.... engine design varies considerably between every manufacturers, you would need to all have the exact same close spec engine before it is even practical! Just like Formula Ford where engines all come from one source manufacturer. I guess some would have everyone on the same exact bike then :?
