Why do the factories spend millions of dollars on R&D when they could employ Ace, the man with the solution to every technical problem. The other day he was telling Suzuki how to improve the handling of Vermuelens bike and now he's pointing Kawasaki in the right direction. Hey what do these Japanese engineers know - they've only been building race bikes 50 years so they haven't yet built up the same level of technical expertise and experience as Ace. Time to step into the motogp paddock Ace and claim your rightfull position as the new technical guru...Jerry Burgess watch out!! ;)

MOTOGP » 'Wake up call' for West

Anthony West has vowed to do whatever it takes to improve his fitness following what Kawasaki competition manager Michael Bartholemy describes as a 'wake up call' during the opening tests of 2008.

Interesting how Rossi makes excuses all year as to why he failed and the groupies jump on board as though the whole world has conspired against him.

Westy has wrist surgery to fix a chronic injury and comes out and says my fitness is terrible and I had know idea how tough it is to do preseason testing (he has never done it before) and therefore I am really disappointed with my effort. I will work hard to improve.

And all the expert forum bloggers come out an bag him for being crap. Well maybe he won't cut it but at least he is out there having a go. If he does do well it won't be because of his skill it will because it is the bike or tyres or TC. After all he is Australian!

The Kawasaki looked all wrong at Phillip Island no base set up screaming its head off and getting no where, seemed all wrong gear ratios it nearly whiped Hopkins of the face of the earth turn 1.A sore hand is no excuse for Westy not training he is with the big boys now,if he doesn't wake up he will be out of a job,if he was fit it would then point more to the bike at the moment Kawasaki have an excuse, having said all that I believe it is a hard bike to ride Westy tried hard and did look awkward he did not seem to be balanced,I believe both Westy and Kawasaki have much work to do before either are a force.Perhaps there were too many new parts to test and didnt stay with one set up long enough

I agree with most of what Parker Parker says. West is a tenacious and gifted rider, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. He jumped on a SS bike and won, but now its a new ball game at this level with setup on a Modern complex factory moto GP bike. The difference is that he doesn't make excuses, and he's man enough to admit he has challenges ahead of him. Don't write him off. He will get his head around it. To ride like that in the wet you have to have to be a natural.
Why does all this commentary degenerate into a slanging match between followers of different riders? They're all hero's in my book.

For crying out loud give the bloke a chance???? New team and bike and rider the Kwaka aint proved itself with anyone aboard yet What the hell was Rossi's excuse in 06 if you want to unload your self appointed technical knowledge on something useful.
Hoppa aint exactly looking like hes ready to race at the pointy end in hurry either......
Go the Aussies ;)

No 1 Armchair Critic - hilarious post

Anyway, AW jsut doesnt cut it for mgp. "But he did well straight away". Well Roger Lee Hayden did the same with a few hours on the bike didnt he?
To say that the 07 Kawa was a dofg is just stupid. Look where RdP got it.
And now that Hopper s injured, i dont see AW deeloping the bike well.
AW was doing great in ssport. Sure he did take a good chance. Bear in mind he s probably making sh1t money as opposed to Hopper, so that probably helped Kawa keep him

Having said that, he s had a pretty tough surgery in Dec, so all ina ll, i dont think he s done THAT bad in PI. Problem with him is that he doesnt seem to progress at all. Last year he ended uo worse than he started. The competition gets touher and he gets caught up.

RDP did pretty well on the Kawasaki last year and this years bike is just an evolution. Hopkins was faster than West first time out on his new bike. Sorry guys but I don't think West is good enough. Great on a WSS bike but he peaked there.
