Nicky Hayden:

"This engine spec is the spec Dani chose to go with for the valve-spring. It's smooth and easy to ride, but its overall performance isn't real high."

-----------

So Pedrosa chose the engine - yet now he can't test it due to injury - leaving Hayden to develop a bike with an engine not suited to him.

How about they let Nicky Hayden use the engine HE WANTS.

MOTOGP » Honda's engine dilemma continues…

"Before I would have said 'yeah sure, we'll race the pneumatic-valve', but now maybe we're going to be on valve-springs" - Nicky Hayden.

Dani will be Caseys biggest threat this year no worries, if the bikes dialled in regardless!
Ill give rossi his tiddler class titles.... but the rest where a given though it must be said! as he had the best 'A' spec tyres obviously until 06. The JB and a Doohan prepped HRC ride offer up a somewhat unballanced advantage Iam afraid. It certainly did not hurt his cause either that there where no consistent rivals between 2000-07 on a decent spec more or less equal ride!--- prove me wrong please?

There seems to be a lot of mis-understanding about TC - eg see Grumpy twin comment. This comment "can you really crack the throttle fully open at the apex of a corner and let the computer sort it out? The answer is that of course you could set the electronics to do that, but the result would be a very slow lap. Electronics is just one of the many variables that have to be set up with complete precision if you want to be competitive" is from superbikeplanet.com/2008/Feb/080207-52.htm. What Toseland is getting at is that the fastest riders are using the least TC to be fast - Stoner, Rossi, JT etc use as little as possible, so please stop seeing TC as an excuse for some riders speed

JL said, "I think you've misunderstood - both of the conventional spring engines are the 2007 motors- there were two versions, one that Dani liked, one Nicky liked. The springer that has been slotted into the pneumatic's frame is Dani's setup. Nicky doesn't like it (according to the articles) because it's down on power in order to gain tractability (a normal tradeoff - refer the Aprilia triple (02/03) which had a higher topspeed than anything but was unrideable"

No, I understood. What I dont understand is how NH is THE tester for HRC right now, and is working on the pneu-engine that he desires because of its potential, and yet posters say he's getting screwed.

It's testing! I take nothing from it. Dani will be fast and win races, Nicki will not! He will be top seven every race. Mark my words ladies and germs...Stoner repeat!

He will be screwed if he has to start Qatar with a DaniSpec springer though. Is he saying that the NHspec springer he used last year hasn't been made to fit this chassis, so its Dani's or the Pneu one?

Since the satellites '07spec engine is complete, which version did they get? DPs or NHs, or a compromise of both, or ....

George, my reading of it is this:

From the first test of the 08 honda, hayden has wanted to race the full 08 bike with the pneumatic engine - even though the engine needed a lot of development. he seems to have trusted Honda to sort it out.

Dani on the other hand, after riding the new bike, seems to have doubted almost from the start that the penumatic engine can be quick enough for first race and so he pushed for the spring-valve engine.

Dani therefore got 'his' version of the sping-valve engine fitted into the 08, which Hayden (unexpectedly) has now ended up having to use because HRC has released they are still way behind with the pneumatic.

my 2 cents...

Engine Dilemma....Pffft, sure crash.

Theres no engine dilemma, its a personality dilemma. The non Spanish rider wants to go his way, and the Spanish sponser wants to go the Spanish riders way, so he can have the advantage over the non spanish team mate. If the Spanish win a WC the Spanish sponsor can assault the Spanish population with a Spanish media blitz.
C'mon Crash keep it real? ;)
