#2 means "i beat rossi"... he's rubbing vale's face in it.

the story is ridiculous tho. you don't put the number of wins on your plate. you put the # of the position you finished in.

otherwise stoner would be #10

MOTOGP » Pedrosa becomes number two

Dani Pedrosa will drop the #26 and ride with the #2 on the front of his Repsol Honda for the 2008 MotoGP season. Pedrosa finished second in the 2007 world championship, with two race wins, and - according to a statement from the team - has made the number change as part of a tradition 'which dictates that a rider bears the number that reflects the victories obtained during the previous twelve months'.

For a person who weighs only 50 KGs he can make that Honda move better than any other Honda rider on the Track. 2 years ago was his first year in MGP and he came 3rd. Last year Honda underestimated there opponents and it was also the first year he had to develop the new 800 and he came 2nd. Personally i think it will be alot closer this year, but it will still be down to Rossi, Stoner or Dani.

I spose bottom line is the reasons why we choose cetain brands over others be it bikes or cars.... obviously is always budget 1st this intern effects the chosen mindset loyalty in many cases. Personally cash availability aside it would always be Ducati and HD for me two different rides one for sunny Sunday afternoons the other for 'LONG' distance crusing.

Dont mind the Lexus either for the shopping trips ;)

There seems to be a fair bit of discussion about the race numbers that riders use. The racing is more important than the number.

Hayden was heavily critcised for using the number 1 plate after his championship, and there was a bit of critisism for Stoner doing the same. If you won the championship its your choice to make. In the past it was the done thing to take the number 1 plate if you won, Rossi is the main one to move away from this.

Same went for the other race numbers, heaps of riders took last years championship position as their number.

Stuffed if I know when it even became an option? in most forms of motor racing your number is dictated by the position you finish in why should it even be a personal choice???... finishing position thats the way it should be or you might as well replace numbers with names--- 'superstitions' gimme a break, What a load of Cods Wollop :?

I find it hard to believe that anybody be criticised for carring the No 1, 2 or 3.
These guys are the top three in a demanding sport and should be proud of their number,
just coz Rossi jacked the tradition is it possible that it is the Rossi groupies doing all the criticising :? :? :?

Wasn't it Barry Sheene that kept riding his epic #7 even when he was two times World Champion? So who jacked the tradition?

i think you made this story a bit bigger then it is...
if Dani wants no#2 then good for him maybe that's what he need to remind him that he is at the top? i think that every rider can chose which no will be on his bike is a good thing, i don't think it effects the sport. its a way to make No's as trade marks.
No's are just No's who can see what no you are when you pass at 300+ kmh on the strait.
lets just hope we see thees No's going really close this year
