MOTOGP » Yamaha 'watching Lorenzo carefully'

"I'm watching Jorge very carefully. I would like to keep his preference for riding position, but if it is impossible then I will ask him to change his riding style" - Masao Furusawa.

It seems that that problem is more serieus then I thought.. We al know that the base of the bike is developt around Rossi therefore all the others are forced to make choises in their setups to comply the bike to their own riding style. In this case Jorge must change his own "riding setup" to deliver the best performances..
At the moment we see how much problems this is giving Melandri.
Looks like a difficult choice (and task) for Lorenzo..

Why change a riders style when thay have won W.Titles......Michelin seem to have trouble with anybody who goes fast through corners as all 800 riders do......Bridgestone dont !!! Work out this problem and Jorge will be up there ;)

both Kees and duke have a point, but let s not forget Jorge is not a rider who gets the perfect set up quickly. front end and corner speed seem to be a a problem for all riders who come from 250cc and use michelins

but according to the story Edwards (michelin) doesn't have any front end problems?

Sounds like yamaha has given lorenzo and his crew plenty of time to see if his 'sit back' style will work in motogp, but if he's still struggling - and the three other m1s are not - then it's pretty obvious what he needs to do...

In general a bike should suit the rider and not the opposite. Of course the truly great riders are able to ride around problems of their bikes often by dramatically changing their style but these solutions were always for a single race or so. So Furusawa is correct in trying to find a good setup for Jorge instead of just blaming his style.

Spot on TEAM GREEN with you on that, Lorenzo needs to change his style not because the bike is all set round Rossi but because the bikes a completely different animal to the 250's

I seem to recall that only a few days back another Yamaha rider (strangely never mentioned in this report) also complained of front end chatter, on turn in at PI....

If Rossi complains or has problems it's the bike.
Anyone else has problems, it's them.

Nice double standards there...

Maybe all Lorenzo needs is time, he's a MotoGP rookie after all. Or maybe the others don't bother speaking out against a bike designed around Rossi. Who knows.

So has the conventional wisdom that the "250 riders will have an inherent advantage over other riders on the 800's" finally been proven incorrect?

I maintain that a good rider will be able to find a way to be fast on any type of bike, no matter whether they're a Spanish kid coming up from 250's or an Australian, American, or Brit coming from a Superbike background.

Lorenzo will find his way, but there's a lot of stuff to learn in a very short period of time - a new bike, tires, team, competitors, etc. It doesn't help his cause that the team is divided between Bridgestone and Michelin.

It looks to me like Michelin is still behind Bridgestone in terms of race tires.
