How sad :(

No Roberts in GP, I guess it''s the first time since 1977 isn''t it?
In 78 King Kenny crossed the pond to spank some European asses, three years in a row, and when he quit riding at the end of 1983, he became a team manager, with world titles again... And then his sons came over as well, adding another world title to the family''s trophy room.

I hope they will find some deal to come back next year, but I can''t remember any such example, even team Pons never made it back :(

All I can say is Team Roberts was a very important part of Motorcycle Racing, especially dear to me as an independant team, and I''m glad they have had this fantastic 2006 season to prove they were good!

Re KR who cares, they were a complete embarrassment. Can just see the talks with the sponsor, please give me x million dollars to fund this team and in return I''ll put a relative on it who would struggle in the local B grade competition.

The ranks are dangerously thin but don''t need bolstering with no hopers for the start on TV so the grid looks full AKA F1.

That very harsh Mick,

I have to agree with Who Cares & say that Team Roberts have been a great independant team & Moto GP still needs such teams.

I hope they get the sponsership & bikes sorted either for later this year or hope they come back with a great package next year.

I guess Mick never watched the 2006 season where Kenny Jr - a relative with a world championship - was challenging for wins & podiums.

U in a coma for a year there Mick?

Pitty Kenny has been a big part of the GP scene now and it wont be the same without him....
My theory is unless Kenny annouces his retirement he may just possibly end up back with Yamaha if rossi decides to leave especially if 08 does not yield that 'phoenix' like championship win.... regardless I can see 09 being an interesting season with a lot of rider/team lineup changes going on when/if rossi leaves Yamaha ;)

That's a shame. Team KR showed how an independent team can compete in 2006. Instead of losing them we need 2 or 3 more teams like that on the grid.

Surely something can be done to increase the sponsorship money in the series so that the grid can grow. No wonder they line up 3 across instead of 4 - otherwise there would only be 4.5 rows of bikes on the grid.

To me this is a far more worrisome problem than whether or not a certain rider will get Bridgestone tires, or what rider will ride for which factory.

The problem will trickle down to the smaller classes. Just how many teams running relatively inexpensive 250's will survive the move to 400cc machinery? How much development money will be available to that class with the enormous development costs of the 800cc machines?

I fear that the grid in the classes that develop riders will shrink and team bosses will be reluctant to take a chance on a young rider. There will be even greater pressure to sign the kids who come with sponsorship money.

It would be more difficult for someone to take a chance on a young Australian rider that crashes a lot.

I hope I'm wrong, but this series may be headed for some seriously tough times.

MotoGP looks to be in trouble. Private teams are going at the rate of one per year. Costs are too high for private teams and they cannot raise sponsorship because the value of the exposure does not equal the cost to compete. It a factory play ground and in the end it cannot work. It is same in the USA. Micheal Jordan has no chance for a title because of the factories. The factories should not be allowed to compete on their own. They should instead support private teams, this is how it worked best in the past. Factories have their own interest and it is not to develop the sport, or make a good show for specators (except maybe for Ducati).
