Perhaps the communication problem last year was because of the tyres speaking French, the engine speaking Japanese and the rider speaking Italian. At least with Japanese tyres the engine will understand leaving only Valentino in the dark. At least it is a way forward. As for making the loudest noise, we who speak English find if we speak VERY VERY LOUDLY and SLOWLY to foreigners they understand and take our money. Perhaps if Furusawa San slows the engine to 300 rpm and takes the silencer off Rossi will have more chance.
Or perhaps the whole article lost something in the translation. I'll read it slowly to my TZ250 when I get home and see what it thinks.

MOTOGP » Yamaha screamer will 'never' return

"So the connection between throttle and tyre is not good with the screamer - don't explain this to the Kawasaki people!" - Masao Furusawa.

Now we know the reason for the muffler on Rossi''s bike. It is so he can listen and talk to the tyres!!!! It is not hard to see why Rossi has not been WC for the last two years. Having said that there are some brilliant engineers out there in MotoGP.

Surely it's a 3 way conversation with the electronics playing their part. The screemer will give the highest top speed and no one is faster out of a corner than Stoner on the Ducati aided by their electronic systems. Never say never Mr Furusawa, a big bang motor's advantage can be overcome by sophisticated traction control as proved by Ducati.

I would have thought Doohan proved a screamer was still No. 1 in the right hands. And indeed in the age of TC surely the need to build a compromised engine has disappeared. Is this a slow news day or was he really silly enough to say that?

Rossi must like the big bang engine a lot because even when the yamaha was miles down on top speed last year you never heard him ask for a screamer (easy way to get more top speed).

I think I read that yamaha gave rossi several engines to try at his first ever yamaha test - he picked the big bang one and has never gone back.

Intereting that the yamaha guy says its engine feel and not the tyre getting more time between each cylinder firing that makes big bang work - the tyre theory has been banded about for over a decade by 'knowledgable' magazines. Obvioulsy it was all a load of guessword/********....

I agree with above that the new electronics are making screamers work though.

Very interesting topic indeed...
I had already been informed that the Big Bang engines efficiency was a mistery for engineers, who kept on using it 'as it was proven better'. Kudos to Ducati who have dared getting out of convention.

Now we have also to take into account the structure of the engine : a V4 is not reacting like an inline 4, they behave very differently, and also influence the handling, due to gyroscopic phenomenons I've been told...

You gotta love the sound of the screamer engines. The original 990 ducati screamer is still my favourite :) Snap crackle and pop ;)

Oh, if only we had 990's with no electronics, then we would see who the best rider is.

Quite funny really, they changed the rules so that Dani could win the championship, then Mr Stoner decides to make it a one man/bike/tyre show!! What's the saying, don't fix it until it's broken.........

It does seem strange for Yamaha to totally denounce the "screamer". As other people here have said the electronics seem to be able to tame this type of engine and offer more power and (perhaps) economy, which is playing a larger part in Motogp today.

Maybe Yamaha are looking further down the road and have somthing up their sleeve.

I agree Rico, that first 990 Ducati was tearing the sky open when it came past. Extreme.
Totally un-Ducati like sound but awesome noise.
