Perhaps the communication problem last year was because of the tyres speaking French, the engine speaking Japanese and the rider speaking Italian. At least with Japanese tyres the engine will understand leaving only Valentino in the dark. At least it is a way forward. As for making the loudest noise, we who speak English find if we speak VERY VERY LOUDLY and SLOWLY to foreigners they understand and take our money. Perhaps if Furusawa San slows the engine to 300 rpm and takes the silencer off Rossi will have more chance.
Or perhaps the whole article lost something in the translation. I'll read it slowly to my TZ250 when I get home and see what it thinks.

MOTOGP » Yamaha screamer will 'never' return

"So the connection between throttle and tyre is not good with the screamer - don't explain this to the Kawasaki people!" - Masao Furusawa.

This is difficult for a techie type of guy who loves all things electronic :) :) :)

But we must removed the fancy electronics as the one thing about motorcycling racing is MAN & MACHINE (MOTORBIKE!!!!!)

not man machine and traction control via microsoft windows :) taking some of the enjoyment of watching a rider WORK that bike.!!!!

if i want electronics i will watch F1 lol !! and i watch F1 rarely

But in saying that F1 is now learning electronics do not help viewing figures (US!!!)
as it becomes a procession and boring.

CA, I think you really have to say that without the external sensors you really haven't got traction control. Yes you could, with enough messing about, come up with say, some form of system that limited crank acceleration in any gear to approximate something similar, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as good in different conditions (with sensors you can just say, never let the rear go 5% faster than the front and only if I'm leaned over more than 15 degrees, for example).

While we are at it, slipper clutches also takes from us the rider's ability to control the rear from locking up. Now they just brake and wack it down the gears and let the clutch out, no problem. Even on a stock 2004/2005 spec R6 that is a stupid thing to do (if you have never experienced it, you are either very good or don't do fast downshifts with hard braking).... The 2007 one doesn't do it anymore...

Let's ban the slipper clutches too!

And launch control! Heck, we saw what happend with mini-P when the system failed last year. He friggin flipped it instantly.

Technically speaking Big Bangs are easier on the tyre than screamers, which allow very little tyre "recovery time"
that alone is worth something.

Ah so, I hope Rossi can speak Japanese to his tyres. Why me not going so fast anymore? Sayonara.

And I would never get on-board anything that used windows as an operating system, you wouldn't warm the engine up in the morning, just wait for the computer to boot up and check for 3000 downloads you aren't remotely interested in.

And of course just as you needed the TC to do something it would sit idle for 10 seconds seeing if media player is up to date....

Windows != RTOS.

A great comment from James Toseland here on TC: superbikeplanet.com/2008/Feb/080207-52.htm Seems as though the fastest way around a track is to use the absolute least TC. What seperates Casey, Rossi and one or 2 others is there ability to ride with minimal interferance. Get rid of TC and the same faces will be at the front, there will just be a whole lot more crashs behind them. Those of you pretending that Stoners victory was due to TC are kidding themselves. But read the article and decide for yourself.

Al..I agree that a closed loop reactive TC system(sensors)will always be better than a open loop predictive(no sensors)system but regardless of that whatever the rules are the same teams will be at the front as they will innovate and find a way around any problem.
Regarding parity in MotoGP well I would like to see a rule change that saw the combined weight of the bike and rider(current weights plus that of the HEAVIEST rider). That should negate the TC argument and level the playing field. I would also keep the 21 litre fuel limit which will effectively cap power over a race. Ballast would have to be fixed to avoid any swinging keels. Would these changes close the field?
