MOTOGP » Stoner's night dream, Rossi's nightmare

The two leading Bridgestone riders, and world championship favourites, suffered very differed fortunes during MotoGP's first ever night race at Qatar on Sunday.

The Baron; I believe Stoner has matured so if the track is not suited to him or the Ducati he will go into damage control and not take any risks just for an extra place, now I stand back and watch for the cross fire.

I think that the way that Stoner rode the first race on the B'stone will change the way Rossi and his team set up his bike, or at least they will try to get the setup to bring the maxium grip later is the race.

Try to avoid the crazy elbowing, and passing etc that will take place in the early part of the race, then pick the leaders off through the middle to late part of the race when hopefully your tyres are better the the next guy.

Or if the M1 has a fuel useage advantage (both the Duke and Honda ran dry at the last race) he might try to gap them and hope his tyres hang in till the end of the race.

I think this race will be a cracker no matter who wins. I can't wait.

I think what everyone should ask themselves is this.

If Valentino can't win at Losail where he had tested and had data how is he going to go at the 14 other tracks that he has no data for ?

Never mind all this "but he's won 7 championships" cr*p, thats old news .

Cheers.

Stumpy has a point about the fuel consumption, it looks indeed that the Yamaha's are more efficient on the fuel, or is it because they have less power (=lower consumption?) than the other bikes?

If we compare the real race time at Quatar with the one from last year they did almost 26 s faster with the same fuel capacity
Because the tankcapacity hasn't changed it means that the engines are more efficient? ore is it because of the electronics? Ore has the race fuel more energy contents? Is that why Livio Suppo especially thanked Shell??

Does anyone knows the regulations according the race fuel what is allowed or wat isn't??

26 seconds faster is mostly due to the temperature change from last year.

MotoGP fuel is regulated at 102 octane rating Kees.

Ducati credit Shell with supplying it with a fuel that decreases consuption.

Anybody who writes off Valentino on the back of the unusual Qatar night race, either hasn't watched motorbike racing for long or simply hates the guy!
Ok seriously, Rossi is still the most 'talented' rider in Motogp and I put talent in parenthesis as I believe that Casey, Dani, Lorenzo, Dovi and probably Toseland are very close in talent to Vale BUT the core difference in my view is 'experience'.... race craft/set up/tyre mgmt/adapting to condtns/etc. He's also got Jeremy Burgess, arguably the most talented/experienced Race Engineer today with 11 world championships incl with Doohan and Gardner
Make absolutely no mistake, Rossi WILL BE a key title contender!
Write him off at your peril.

noj, Ill stick with my comments that Rossi has no data with Bridgestone at most of the tracks they will race at this year.

I do agree that he has been great for MotoGP and maybe with a year of using Bridgestones he could be a challenger next year, but that depends on how the young guns come on this year using Michelins ( which have much data for all tracks).

Just my opinion

Cheers.

We can assume that sooner rather than later Rossi will come good, it may the case that Rossi will find it a little difficult as of course there is a lack of data for tyres so will mean he has to do everything for the first time, we know that at the next race he tested there very well so I expect him to be able to run at the front.

Don't expect many if any poles out of him though as I don't beleive that the bridgestones are capable of matching Michelins in qualifying.

I'm a massive Rossi fan but i hate to say it I think his talent can no longer shine through like it used to. Dovi going past him on sunday that easy give me a break, Dorna have well and truly *****d motogp up. Too much money too many electronics, and it's a precession like F1 i never thought i'd say that, they all race for the first few laps then everyone fans out like F1 and it's the guys at the back left to do the racing
