testing on the limit is the official riders job.
no other team relays on test riders so much ,the riders themselves do most of the job.
as for aerodynamics Ducati test that in the wind tunnel.

Ace, i ve not had MY fun watching Duacati s debacle. I invite u to find one Casey hating post from me.
Anyway, whatever it is is very very strange. Sure the competition has improved a mile, but Ducati wer slower in 07 than in 08 at Estoril, and as it s been said, Barros score a podium kast year, Hofmann a couple 6ths, Capi won a race and a few podiums .... look where Melandri is

Apparently Canepa was going to have a wildcard ride during the season. It wont happen now as it seems Canepa is lapping at similar times tto Marco. And if he beat Melandri in a gp ...

also i agree, a test rider who laps 3 secs off the pace on a 1.45 lap wont be that useful

I wonder why all the other teams have professional racers, and fast ones, as members of their team then ? BTW, the only Guareschi that wins is the brother :p (and on Guzzis).

There's only one man who rides this machine how it's supposed to, and the test rider is down, and 4 seconds off (at least). The windtunnel works and is part of ducati's ****nal sure, but what about having someone trying it at the same speed as Casey ?

It's nonsense to pretend the test riders don't need to be fast, and what's happening with the GP8 proves it so well: they need people who can ride as close to Casey's times as possible to be able to bring back infos the three others don't deliver.

I think everyone is jumping the gun a bit. After Casey won Qatar he said the next few rounds would be difficult for Ducati because the tracks (being short) did not suit their package well. So Lets see how well he does in China before we start saying the Duc has a problem. I think Stoner will bounce back and whoop some @ss in Asia.

As for Melandri hes has problems from day 1. So what ever his issue is, its probably a combination of him and hit setup. So maybe Bayliss or Biaggi can help him come to grips.

Stoner will be back on top and Melandri needs to be thinking about a new home in 2009.

so what your saying is that Ducati needs to find a test rider that's faster then the three other full time riders and agree to be "only" a test rider.
and then with his data Stoner and Ducati will make the bike faster?? ;)

RR75 why do your kind of Ilk have to say such awful things about Biaggi or other riders you don't like. Maybe we should say it will be nice to see RR75 crash. I'm not a big fan of Biaggi's antics but I respect his ability as a top racer and what he brings to the race series.

In terms of bringing Bayliss and Biaggi as test riders to help Melandri and Stoner I think that's a good idea. I agree with others that Capirossi was an asset to Ducati in this regard and so was Gibernau. Ducati seems a bit short-sighted in its rider selection and retention process.

RR75:You want to set up a bike for a world champion? You need to be able to grab the last tenth of a second ? you need to get there many times over and experiment it in tests. This is why teams uses very fast guys indeed. And in this case, you have a factory without a test rider available, and three "useless" guys . Ducati need riders who can tell them what's happening on the bike when travelling +/- around the same speed of Casey. And the idea to bring in Bayliss and Biaggi is brilliant ! And yes, with the datas and informations Troy and Max could bring back from THE ZONE, where Guareschi, Elias and Guintoli obviously can't go, they'll be able to test and try other(new) things.
