It makes sense for every team to have a test rider that can help analyse problems and develop a package but they have to do it at or near competitive pace.

Current testing rules do not allow race riders to put in many test miles.
A question for anyone out there who would know? What are the rules with non race rider testing with tyres?

Do teams have access to the same tyres used to race or does the tyre quota system preclude that?

Whatever they do, it's a big kick in the nuts for Stoner. God knows what he's thinking??? Firstly he gets trounced byt other bridgestone runners that ducati up and basically say it's the bike and we need some pros in to fix because son your fast but your style is so outthere that you cannot make a positive contributuion to bike that other riders need to win.... If I was Stoner I'd give lawasaki a call just in case I don't win. Because without the win he ain't much good to them and Ducati arn't exactly famous for looking after riders that arn't winning. Having said that he should be at the front in China....with VR, JL, and PDiddy. but if he's not...

Nothing to do with Stoner but this is what I just read on an italian website, Kawasaki wants Bautista, Hayden to Ducati, Dovi to HRC, and Melandri to Dovi's seat.

Bringing in Bayliss and Biaggi to test ride is a great idea for the Ducati Team as a company, but a terrible idea for their riders. It only proves that at least 3 riders are incapable of giving proper feedback and help develop the bike and it also ridicules their talent and can destroy them psychologically. True Bayliss and Biaggi have tons of experience, but they have never ridden the 800's, they have completely different riding styles, this type of bike is completely different from what they now ride and I doubt that a couple of test rides will solve the problem.
I wonder why all the data from Casey's bike is completely and totally useless to the other Ducati riders?

Hey, Ducati can make money from those on testing day by selling the ticket.

Wrap up the testing day with full distance race between the Baylistic and the Roman Emperor would be fun. Bayliss with his familiarity to Ducati bikes and Biaggi with his 250cc experiences where 800cc are close enough having similar or faster corner speed, people will cheers when 2 red bikes tuned up for the best they can come out during the test day(s).

Bridgestone too could collecting valuable data from them as it is more likely big parts of Ducati problems lately.

teatotal..Race riders/drivers are there to race, test riders/drivers are there to test. Test riders/drivers usually do not make good race riders/drivers and not all race riders/drivers are good in the test role as it can be very tedious and or boring.
I don't think CS and other riders/drivers would be good testers because of their ability to work around a problem rather than fix the underlying issue.
As a race rider you have no time to get to the root cause of a problem you just make the best of what you have given the time available which is why race riders do not make good test riders.
There are exceptions to the above and VR may be one due to his maturity in this premier class.

It looks like Stoner was doing something different last year or maybe he is not exactly the same? many people said in the past that the first championnship always come easily but to do it again is quite difficult? The pressure is there and even more after having some hard word for Rossi, Stoner will have to prove he was right or he will feel very lonely, in front he also have two of his 250 friends leading the championship.

Dakota, yes I saw the story about the orange color but so far it doesn't seems to be a problem, at least for what I understand. Maybe more coming soon.
