There is a ban on all 2stroke engines in some parts of the world, trials bike makers like GasGas are switching to 4strokes. Moto GP bike dont have to have much in common with road bikes, we have WSB for that, (well sort of). A 250cc 4stroke single would be almost as fast as the 125 2stroke, and would sound much better!, then maybe 500cc 4cyl, and the top class could be ANYTHING you want!, as long as its a 4stroke, the size, weight, power and fuel consumption issues would sort themselves out, and boy would that be fun. :)

WSBK does well with semi-stock machinery and the Super Sport feeder class provides good racing. The thing that is different from the old Manx days, is that boys are starting much younger and the 125 class is important for that. But then their is really no need for the 250cc class other than the amusement of the semi professionals. A better step would be 500cc twins 4 strokes as a spec bike available at low cost. Close racing would be guaranteed and the smudge pots would be consigned to the museum.

The phasing out of the 2T classes will be a massive loss in my opinion, I think that 250 strokers are the complete embodiment of everything that is true motorcycle racing, a perfect balance of weight, power and agility. Just look at the fantastic riders that have emerged from these classes. I've enjoyed watching and riding such bikes for years and it will be a sad day when they are inevitably replaced by 4 strokes.

When They do go I hope they're replaced by something a bit special, such as 500cc twins and not yet more 600s. Hopefully one day soon young bikers will be tearing round the roads on nimble 500cc 4t race-replicas much-like the 250 2t race-reps which used to annoy the big bikes

And so what if the Japanese aren't producing 2T engines tne Euro factories are.

----

not for long, the Euro requirements for motorcycle emissions will kill them off soon.

Hmm it is a mess but it has to change one day

Should definately remain prototypes the ideal would be as of old 2 stroke format
500
250
125

So new would be
800
400
200

BUT doubtfull aprillia/ktm would get on board but it could bring the japanese back with using 2/1 cylinders from their motogp bikes.

Not that easy though it would seem!

Seems to me we used to have 500cc engines before, were they not just before they up it to 990cc, then down sized to 800cc (supposedly to slow things down!!!)
I seem to remember cyclemaster racing as well, 32cc, plus 50cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, 500cc. There is nothing new about any of it. It's just there is nothing much left to develop that will make that much difference.

Just go with the flow as long as the racing is good.

And cut out the green issues crap, if anyone was worried about that there would be no racing and no worldwide movement of bikes/cars/lorries in planes to race meets.

Ok, it is not what I like and half in jest, but:

Twostroke or fourstroke, we will run out of normal gas for them. Or run out of affordable gas for them.

Why not make it a diesel powered class. 990cc turbodiesel engines. :))))

Seriously now.... 500cc would be nice, single manufacturer engine ok, but make it a four please, with 16 valves, revving to 18000 or more with open exhaust. Or a 400 four.

When they changed from 990cc to 800cc supposedly for safety reasons, I thought a huge mistake had been made. It seemed to me that drop was not big enough and should have been down to 600cc, a popular capacity for road machines. Perhaps that could happen now by lopping off one cylinder as an interim measure to make 600cc threes.
Of course this will never happen because the people that run MotoGP cannot afford to have a lesser Championship as in WSB or AMA or even BSB to be faster and therefore better in the eyes of the punters. Shame really because we could then have 600cc, 300cc and 150cc.

I have nothing against progress, apart form the fact that almost everything in the 60s and 70s is better than the c**p we have today.
Four strokes were great in the 50s with the Manx, 7R, G50, Gilera 4s and Saturno, MVs etc not too bad in the 60s with Honda 4,5,6, etc but those days are gone, blown into the weeds by Yamaha and the fabulous TZ series.
We still have great two strokes. If the FIM and the suits kill them off then it is a pogrom worthy of the worst ever perpetrated against humanity.
I say take these people out into a wood and don't bring them back!
By the way 'Long live Bo Diddley' :?
