hang on...are we saying that 250cc 2stroke = 400cc 4stroke

and 125 cc 2 stroke = 250cc 4 stroke?

Well if we are I'd like to see how 'green' the different engines are. I don't know much about this but I would think a 2 stroke 125 would have trouble being 'less green' than a 4 stroke 250? Sure 'per cc' that would be different but i thought small strokers were raced because of their efficiency (and simplicity and lower cost) and to be honest I don't see plumes of smoke coming from any of the 125's or 250's (apart from cold starts).

btw i am on the side of the strokers and am guessing a lot of the anti 2-stroke agenda is based on 'green' issues?

A cheaper solution might be: 600 4-stroke production engines in a custom chassis, giving teams the option of engine, as well as chassis.
Few people want a 'one make' control tyre, so I find it very difficult to see anyone agreeing to a single engine supplier

Road drives racing, just as racing can drive road use. There is no point putting large amounts of effort into 2strokes when their use on public roads are numbered.

Anyone who thinks a 500cc Vtwin will be slower than a 250cc Twin 2stroke is nuts.

One of the main reasons against 250cc 2-strokes is that Aprilia want 1.2m EURO to LEASE
a bike for a year! that's not that far off an 800cc MotoGP bike! (around 1.8m)
Then the factory will only build so many "Top level" bikes and everyone else can ride
around for x-y position off the podium.

To me, if 500cc 4-stroke twins were introduced with strict rules governing cost of materials and rev limits (ala universal ECU's) then chassis manufacturers could step in and suddenly you have a wide variety of bikes and it would surely be cheaper as there would no longer be a monopoly on bikes.

I agree with Buelliful.

As long as cost control is in place i cannot see the cost explodes because as a feeder series we need to keep the cost down. As far as i see it, the best engine rule would be:

500cc twin 4T (even though i much prefer 400cc)
mechanical valve mechanism only with maximum four valves per cylinder
rev limit 14k rpm
no exotic material allowed in engine construction.
standard ecu to eliminate rider aids such as traction control, etc.

chassis, brake, and minimum weight rule can be directly adopted from 250cc 2T

the obvious choice for a replacement for 250,s would be 450cc 4 strokes which every manufacturer already make for their motocross and enduro bikes
