Another evil idea from HRC, they can't make a decent 2 stroke and now try to shove this "prototipe" idea in our throats. I hate Hondas and i honestly hate HRC, 250 s are ideal for the porpouse, HRC sucks.

600cc four-cylinder four-strokes to replace 250cc two-strokes from 2011? How will FGSport react?

Trig - bury an environmentalist - that's one of the best ideas i've heard in recent times, enviromentalists really are mental. As for the cost issue as someone else mentioned on here with full grids in both the 125 and 250 classes i would say 2 strokes seem very cost effective, just compare them to the paltry grid you have for MotoGP.

The 125 and 250 classes are fine just as they are, but there's always someone that wants to **** around with something that's fine as it is.

True Trig ... they provide awesome power - as long as ur in the powerband - but even the smaller capacities will go 4-stroke soon. I was dubious when changing to a 4-stroke MX bike, but honestly my 450 scares me more often than my old 250 2-stroke used to ... but I do miss the smell of the 2-strokes.

& Sleepy, the 4-stroke MotoGP bikes are NOT more expensive than the 500cc 2-strokes. No one here said they just topped up with oil from race to race ... wipe the sleep from ur eyes & grab a cup of coffee before reading comments & replying maybe?

as a weekend rider it is much easier to associate with a 4stroke, at least you can in some way compare it to a R6 or Cbr600.

in my mind they should use production bikes but without limits in development.

I probably mentioned this in a previous post but....

Any 600cc production engine in a prototype chassis, it's the cheapest way to go!

Only the MotoGP class is a totally prototype class. As for the current 250/125 class, anyone can buy an Aprilia RS250/125, Yamaha YZR 250, Honda RS250/125, etc...

Whilst it is true you get choosen by Aprilia, etc... to be offered the latest spec bikes, everyone else mid-pack & towards the back of the grid is on over-the-counter races bike from their local race bike dealers, now that's hardly prototype is it?

Dice,

I think you need to check before shooting at people.

Were we not discussing the costs of 2 strokes versus 4 in the context of MOTOGP costs. Well read 2T's comment about just having to top up 4 strokes. That is what I was reffering too and anyone who thinks a 2 stroke is more expensive than a four stroke to maintain wants their head testing. (only in routine servicing maybe, but we are talking grand prix bikes) I think if you checked with the bean counters at HRC, SUZUKI, etc about costs then these here MOTOGP 4 strokes cost massively more than the old 500's.

A 600 4-cylinder prototype could make at least 150hp on the back wheel. That's clearly too much for an intermediate category. Some guys above put it right: It's about Honda wanting to re-shake things and gain the upper hand, while revitalizing the whole 600cc idea from a commercial point of view.

I can't see it happening in a purely prototype kind of thing though: Development costs (which are the biggest costs, and not maintenance) could be as high as the 800cc which are already disconcertingly high.

The whole thing would make sense if 800cc would go back to 1000, and I would welcome something like that.

This is a very practical way forward and allow the likes of KR, Harris, Spondon etc back in the game. The smaller classes must be a pain in the **** to the big manufacturers. From a marketing prospective (and this is the only reason manufacturers go racing in the first place) they feel they have done enough by investing in the blue ribband class and they wouldn't necessarily sell any more bikes on the strength of 125/250 success. Aprillia back it to the hilt cos it's their (for the most part) marketplace. I bet Honda's started this kafuffle.

whats wrong with a 400 twin class. it would keep superbikes happy, be a prototype and affordable option. also it would be half a moto gp engine in effect, in keeping with how the gp classes where organised, prior to the 990''s and 800''s. i.e 125 250 500. :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?
