Canepa is looking very impressive. Some of the credit for the GP8 must go to him. He is fast at all of the tests that he has attended, and it is no mean feat to be faster than Spies here. The guy has talent, so a guest ride at a GP might be just rewards.

Hey Duke, Canepa wants to take Melandri's place and he knows Gibernau is the lead man right now.

Never underestimate the value of a good test rider. They do all the hard and sometimes boring work but good test riders or drivers do not always make good race riders or drivers.

@Grumpy_Doctor: What sort of stupid inane uniformed comment is that? Sometimes your pathetic side swiping gets a little bit wearying, if you dont have something constructive to add rather just shut up.

I dont understand what all the fuss is about with this test?

Test riders are normally 2-3secs slower than the top riders so Canepa & Spies being half a second faster than japanese testers is nothing to get excited about! They will still be at the back of the grid fighting with Melandri.

It could be argued that the test is not about time for regular testers as they just want to know what works, there are only 2 people who have anything thing to gain by looking fast,so they'll surelly be pushing a bit harder..?

The most significant part of the test I can see is why is the Yamaha B-stone tester so slow and where has Aoki gone on the time sheets? That isnt a great start for Rossi or Suzuki

Aoki was there to translate for Spies. He did 4 laps first to check the bike I guess.

"and it is no mean feat to be faster than Spies here"

Why AMA don't go to Indy, it's as new to Spies as everyone else.

I rate Spies. But these test mean very little when it comes to how the championship regulalrs perform come September. Sure Canepa is fastest, but the Duke is one of the fastest bikes on the grid anyway, does that mean he is anywhere near as quick as Stoner? Probably not, otherwise Melandri would be out and he'd be in. It's testing for tyre data buy the test riders. So the times mean very little. Im not knocking the test riders, it's not an easy job, and I'd guess most race drivers don't make the best test riders and vice-vera, they are very important...
