A fair assumption of one of the best tactical races i have seen in a long, long time, both Stoner and rossi used their strengths to try to win the race.

I just wish Stoner would accept the fact, that he was beaten by a better rider/tactic today, pity we have to wait until the 17th August, i hope it will be as thrilling as todays race.

Being a GP fan for longer than i care to mention, the sport needs atleast two riders who will hang it out there for the ultimate prize, i''ve seen the Spencer / Roberts, Gardner, Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson battles produce some of the best racing i have ever seen, let''s hope this cycle is beginning again.

MOTOGP » Rossi vs Stoner - the aftermath

Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner produce stunning US Grand Prix battle, but Australian unhappy at some 'aggressive' moves.

Thats the greatest sandbagging job I have ever seen. Rossi was not with in a bulls roar of Stoner in Free practice and Qualifying on race tyres. Then he goes out and pulls another half a second on Stoner. Maybe Casey will stop sitting in the pits and free loading while everybody else is out getting the tyres and settings right. Dont for one minute think that Rossi thought he was faster but he held back knowing the young fellow would get complacent. Bottom line is it was a great race between the two and now Casey might show us his real talent by using tactics and agression. I agree that the move in the corkscrew was a bit over the top but he didn't bring Stoner down. Others might have.

I was at the race and it was magnificent, truly showing the two most talented riders in the world going head to head. But I have to agree with Stoner there were a few passes that Valentino made that were on the dangerous side, and while exciting to fans, there is still a safety level that must be maintained. Nonetheless, Valentino was the better rider today and figured out how to keep Stoner behind him in order to keep him from breaking away. Rossi was better on the brakes and only made one mistake whereas stoner made 2. Fantastic race!

Well done Valentino & you can be proud of yourself, you won it fair & square.

the comments made by Casey has told me everything I thought about stoner, the moaner.

I have never heard so much BS in his interview, there was no way Valentino was going to give his lead up & if he wanted to overtake Rossi it's upto him to work out how to do so & stay there, the facts are he tried to as usual Casey found himself up against Rossi at his best, doing to Stoner what he used to do to Sete & Max.

Stoner did'nt like getting beat you could tell because they expected an easy sail into the distance win, instead he had to fight & he is a spoilt bratt.

If Casey Stoner thought that Rossi's moves were aggressive then maybe he should try a year in World Superbikes to find out exactly how aggressive riders can be whilst keeping the race exciting and close.

Did anyone see the races at Brno this weekend, bloody fantastic!!!!!

Im a little disappointed in Stoner not shaking Rossi's hand post race, that just not Australian. Aussies pride themselves on giving credit where credit is due, if the rule allow it then Stoner need to expand his repartee so he too exploit this area of racing to fend of other competitors

As for Burgo's comment referring to incidents that happened 25 years ago has very little relevance to today racing as this is a business now, not a sport

The best racing is always seen at a club level, where business and politics have no relevance. And there more push and shove at this level, if thats what blows your hair back!

Casey still has a few tricks to learn

Its not a popularity contest its RACING

It was an awesome race and proved that even with TC you can have a real battle..
Stoner is mentaly much stronger than Gibernau and will respond soon enough. In the interview on the BBC he said that he enjoyed the race for most of the time unlike a few agressive passes of VR. Valentino was not the better rider yesterday (because Casey could produce quicker laptimes)but he played it better on the tactical side by riding defensive and agressive. It worked out this time but I wonder what the outcome had been if Casey had stayed on his rear wheel until the end of the race...

Yes, it was dangerous, but that's racing! It's a fight for the 1st place in the championship, it's Laguna and it's V46! What want Stoner else? Rossi didn't tough him.. so he must be happy with his 2nd place. Little kid!

"We will see".. yeah, that's right.. we will see how Rossi will beat you, with your electonic pack! In Brno yamaha will test a new electronic software, so let's hope it will give V46 some advantage

Valentino Rossi is a living ledgend and displayed as such with the laguna seca victory

Casey Stoner is a fkn winge bag and reminded everyone what an asshole he can be.

Without doubt the best race and battle of the year-(so far)

Going into the summer break its Valentino who will have the upper hand as far as confidence and morale are concerned.

And to think Casey Boner was moaning about certain fans and all he done with that child like reaction to being beaten (fairly) by Vale is added more reason not to like the bloke.

Other than that, thank-you Rossi for kicking his butt.

Great race.

Roll on brno where hopefully Dani will be back to his best as well.

I just cant wait

Why can't people accept that the better rider won the race! Stoner unfortunately has proven that he is a first class moaner and a bad loser.....he needs to grow up!
