A fair assumption of one of the best tactical races i have seen in a long, long time, both Stoner and rossi used their strengths to try to win the race.

I just wish Stoner would accept the fact, that he was beaten by a better rider/tactic today, pity we have to wait until the 17th August, i hope it will be as thrilling as todays race.

Being a GP fan for longer than i care to mention, the sport needs atleast two riders who will hang it out there for the ultimate prize, i''ve seen the Spencer / Roberts, Gardner, Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson battles produce some of the best racing i have ever seen, let''s hope this cycle is beginning again.

What is going to be annoying now is...there will be no complaints about banning TC and look how Bridgestones dominated. No threat of a single tyre rule now. I wonder why?

The Yamaha did look on rails all weekend. I still donut think Rossi was sandbagging though. Laguna is tough to overtake on. Exactly why Rossi did everything to get in front early on.

I remember Rainey used to get very pis*ed off with Shwantz.

That would not be a bad move to stir things up TRR, but will he be fast enough?

I personally don't want Rossi, Stoner or Danny to be friends. Rossi deserved to win, it a nice change than Stoner winner so many in a row. I don't think his overtake at the corkscrew was good though, running wide far enough, but to come back on the racing line like that isn't good. If Stoner had done that and taken Rossi out he wouldn't have made it out of the circuit. Stoner got impatient, made a mistake and come second. Thats life. I think Rossi will have one more DNF (Valencia) before the season is finished though. Sete will make sure of that when he is on Marco's bike. I think nothing would make Sete happier than taking Rossi out in the last race for Danny to win the title.

I think we can safely say that Melandri is gone.

From a tam perspective your No.2 rider is there to help pick up enough points for contructors/team championship, and help the No.1. In all cases Melandri has failed.

So the next logical step, as TRR said, is to bring Gibernau up to speed and run as a blocker for Stoner. But saying that, will Gibernau take on that role? It may be too much for him to play second fiddle to Stoner.

How come these guys get a mid summer break? They earn crap loads more than everyone else, especially me, and all I get is a 4week break per 52 weeks, if staffing levels permit. I blame my parents for my lack of genetics.

Stoners just 22, let him grow up and still be a Wxxxker.
You keep comparing him to riders like Rossi, Doohan, Lawson, Corser, Bayliss.
He could be the son of some of these. Unfortunlety I am nearly double Stoners age.
At 22 i got into fights just because someone hit on my girlfriend or spilt my drink.
You want him to be happy about coming second?

By the way, after try the BBC for a weekend of Motogp, I'm really afraid of next year.

One of the best races for a long time, Rossi knew he had to get in front of Stoner and P*ss him of by keeping him there for as long as possible. Stoner was p*ssed off because he knew once he got past Rossi and held him off for half a lap he could draw away. Stoner now need to fight back both mentally and physically, and if that means one or both of them ending up in the gravel, so be it, as that the way Rossi want to play it

Kees - Stoner was the faster rider (no doubt), Rossi was the better rider (thats why he won!)...

They were both looking a little desperate but that just shows how well both of them were riding to cause Vale to push on too much at corkscrew and then Casey to go miles wide at turn 2 and also run off the track at the last turn.

I think that is a big welcome to what motogp is about for Stoner! he showed yesterday what he is capable of on track, hopefully he can change his attitude a bit when he doesn't win!

As a Stoner fan, not fanatic, the race was fantastic. Rossi (and yes I'm a fan of his as well) played the perfect race plan, which was clearly to give no quarter, in other words the best way to defend his championship lead was to be agressive. I have to admit, if I was Stoner I would be just as bitterly angry, more angry with myself. At same time, if I was Rossi, I would be ecstatic with my result, pure genius. Stoner is only a young fella and I'm sure he will learn from this. I'm just glad someone (Rossi) finally worked out how to make a race of it in MotoGP, better than those clear off into the distance races. So long as no one gets hurt bad, feelings don't count, I don't care.
