I reckon his will do OK at Ducati. There was some luck involved in 2006. But he was a consistant front runner that year. He just can't rider the tiny Honda which is much more suited Pedrosas smooth style.

The Ducati is big and has some raw power, thats what Haydon prefers, it's closer to a Superbike than the Honda is and he would do well on it.

But he beat Rossi, which means instant hatred from 80% of the people that read Crash.

The Hayden clan has had a tough time of it lately. A 13 yo or so cousin was killed dirt tracking, then both Rog and Tommey were injured and now Nicky. I can't remember a time in MotoGP where Nicky missed a race from injury. Anyway, I hope HRC puts someone interesting on his bike instead of a lowly test rider from Japan.

Totally agree with your statement Dan. I for one think there is something wrong with Hayden and it's not the bike. He admits as much in the excellent Suzie Perry interview mentioned in this thread. Maybe his frustation with the bike has turned into a motivation problem. Not a big fan of his, but he should be doing better: maybe at Ducati he can turn it around. It is a real shame that he is not riding and we may be short another rider this weekend.

Please, Rossi did the 8 Hours of Suzuka twice where he easily could have been hurt in a crash. Professional riders actually used to do lots of one-off events back in the day. GP riders regularly did the 8 Hour, the TT, and a couple of other races like the Daytona 200. So Hayden wasn't doing anything no one has done before. Hayden's not even the first one to get hurt doing stuff away from GP weekends.

Maybe he should've looked at those triple jumps and packed it in immediately, but Nicky's not the kind of guy to wuss out at the last minute. It bit him in the derriere but these things happen sometimes.

Hi there Dan, you say he worked hard for his World Championship, what a load of cobblers. He won it only because Valentino came off. Come on, how many races did win. As for him going to Ducati . . . no chance, Ducati want someone who is capable of winning races. Try WSB, most of the has beens go there.

"Hi there Dan, you say he worked hard for his World Championship, what a load of cobblers. He won it only because Valentino came off."

Not this nonsense again. The championship is 18 races long and Hayden had the most points at the end of it. It wasn't just one race that cost Valentino the championship.
You don't see Rossi whining and making up these nonsense excuses that some of his fans like to make. He took it like a man and moved on. I suggest you do the same.

Maybe Kiyonari could sub for Nicky but I don't particularly think Kiyo would be the right man for the job. Honda needs to keep developing the pneumatic valve engine so it'd probably be better for Okada to sub again. Kiyo is fast but he's still adjusting to the new 1000RR and WSBK.

I actually got a chance to talk to Ron Ten Kate and he said Kiyo's riding style uses soft settings for the suspensions whereas Checa uses much harder GP-like settings. Because of that, I don't think that Kiyo will be able to get up to speed right away on the RC212V. It has taken him some time just to adjust to the new Fireblade.

For now IMO Honda's best bet would be to take Okada out of mothballs again.

Well no one bashes on this at all, do they?

For sure Nicky is thinking of his future in MotoGP on this one. Why risk further injury if you don't have a contract signed or if you're already signed on with another team. Get rest, come back 100%... good move.
