I reckon his will do OK at Ducati. There was some luck involved in 2006. But he was a consistant front runner that year. He just can't rider the tiny Honda which is much more suited Pedrosas smooth style.

The Ducati is big and has some raw power, thats what Haydon prefers, it's closer to a Superbike than the Honda is and he would do well on it.

But he beat Rossi, which means instant hatred from 80% of the people that read Crash.

Tady would just be making up the numbers as per his last outing, they need to put a young gun who is hungry to impress on the bike, somebody with a hospital or rostrum approach and preferably the latter as the outcome

I shall miss his heroric fight back through the field from a flattering qualifaction in last 15 minutes on soft tyres.
Still Honda can concentrate of their one hope, Dani Ponderosa, on the pneumatic Honda. Is that extra tyre pressure?
Honda, death to the EVIL Empire!!!!
Could HRC field a wild card? I doubt if their 'organisation' is that organised. If they do then who better than Dovi, there again I think Ponderosa might veto that one, wouldn't want a lesson from a Rookie.

Like who? A 250 rider is not going to be able to shirk his regular ride to ride the bike and someone like Dovi can't do it for the same reason. Past that you'd have to go into another championship. Maybe WSBK or WSS but there's no one from either of those championships that could jump on that bike and podium.

Honda also needs to develop that bike and a young gun simply can't do that.

I think Honda's best choice would be Gibernau. Right after testing the Duke, he is full of information and after all it seems Ducati does not want to employ him instead of Melandri so he seems to be free. :) Okay I know this is not reality so lets see who we have at Honda in WSB.
My real choice would be Checa, he knows the 800 Honda (Kiyo definitely not) and he is fast enough.

Fair play to Nicky, He likes riding a motorcycle, let him ride.
What a lot of posters on this story dont appear to realise is that the majority of Motogp and WSB ( or any major championship)regularly ride motocross or short track/dirt track to keep their physical and metal fitness at its peak.

Interesting thought trr about Gibernau. I presume Ducati aren't using him yet because they've already paid for Melandri and don't have deep enough pockets.

I don't think Checa would be a good choice - he couldn't get on with the bike last year. His priority must be to reverse his current slump in form to get a decent ride next year. Kiyo is notoriously fickle mentally and with bike setup, also described by Adrian Gorst as a great talent, but a slow learner - so I wouldn't put him on the bike. As they are still developing the new engine a test rider would be best. Hodgson could be a possibility as he rides for Honda and has the experience, but I think he would say no!

"no chance, Ducati want someone who is capable of winning races. Try WSB, most of the has beens go there."

Why is Melandri still on the bike then...

"Honda also needs to develop that bike and a young gun simply can't do that."

Why are people here so obsessed with the race rider developing the bike. That's the job of the test rider and engineers.

Give the guy a break... ok i agree luck played a pretty big part in his title in 06 but he still got out there every race and collected the points he needed, and didn't go out expecting them gifted to him or to breeze off at the front. Remember he was robbed of points when Dani fired him into the gravel at Estoril, that wasn't good luck was it? and it was lucky he beat Rossi maybe but how many other riders did he also beat to the title... Dani, Marco, Stoner, Capirossi et al.

He has had a couple below par seasons, maybe a change of bike and team will help him a bit. Be good to see him on the duke. He may be the other one mad enough to ride it like Stoner is doing...

Wish they would sack MM, they would be doing him a favour. Hope he gets a BETTER ride for himself next year. Marco is better than this. Stoner is somehow naturally suited to the Ducati like no other rider, Marco just made an unforeseen mistake when he signed up. I reckon if he had stayed at honda, he would be top 4 in the standings...
