Understand that I have no problem with Casey, but also understand that as long as Rossi continues to win a greater number of races than Casey (16 for Rossi in 2006, 2007, 2008 compared to 14 for Stoner during those same three years), Casey will only be able to whittle away at Rossi's record once Val has retired. Fact: Rossi was up 53 MotoGP victories over Casey before Casey arrived in MotoGP in 2006. Now Val has 55 victories more than Casey.

My sympathy to Valentino for the passing of his grandfather Dario on raceday at the age of 82,
he dedicated this great victory to him.

Go Vale!

Paul, I suppose it's realy only after you retire that you're records get broken like Rossi did to Doohan, Nieto, Hailwood and Agostini. But at the moment Stoner looks to be the only one taking it to Rossi,Pedrosa has been dissapointing with 6 wins in 3 years,Lorenzo started great then found the ground easier to ride,Hayden is starting to get there,Dovizioso is alwost there, everyone else is up and down in results. So hopefully next year we will have different winners and a closer Championship than this and last years.A wise man once said records are ment to be broken it's all about when not if ask Agostini, but I think he'll hold onto one.WCs

Its one thing to have done it and another to say he is gonna do it. Thus the Saying"Been There Done That". Valentino Rossi has done it. Whether Casey Stoner will go on to beat that Agostini's record which just fell we'll never know but the odds are that CS won't. Even Mick Doohan couldn't. Use your own Calculator. Lots of peoples dream that Rossi will not beat Doohan. But he did. Here are few people who have been beaten by Rossi...Biaggi, Gibernau, and welcome to the club Stoner. Here are few names that Doohan didnt have to beat....Wayne Rainey,, Kevin Scwhantz, due to retirement. It was the dreams of some after last years WC that a certain new kid on the block would erase all VR rec.

Saran, actually the only reason Doohan didn't get the record was because of his Assen crash otherwise he would have had the title in 92 and 93 against Rainey and Schwantz and Criville only won after Doohan retired because of injury otherwise god knows what records he would have set. Same thing could happen to Rossi( i certainly hope not)and then you never know.

This guy has a Personality that I would Die for even if he doesn't ride a Bike. Let me give you an example. John Mcnroe was a good Tennis player but had such a foul mouth. A certain Motogp rider reminds me of him. The word is Good only. Tiger Woods IS great. Michael Jordan was great and Valentino Rossi is great. By using your Calculator anybody can up with numbers. I won't force you to like Rossi.

Strangely the posts have been cleaner since the CorkScrew because a certain something is slipping away. :)

So you are saying that Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz had the UNFAIR advantage of not crashing. Valentino Rossi came so close to winning the World Championship in the first year of Grand Prix.
Go and read the years 96,97,98 the names that were riding in the Grand Prix and see if anyone of them made an impact in Motogp.

Just some more stats on Stoner: Out of all of the riders that have had to race against Rossi, Stoner has won the most races:

14: Stoner
13: Biaggi (some not against Rossi)
9: Gibernau and Capirossi
8: KR jr

IMO if Stoner doesn't seriously injure himself and he continues racing for another 6 years in his current form he will have a better record than Eddie Lawson! (EL: 127 races, 31 wins, 4 championships). Wayne Gardener himself said that the toughest person he ever had to race against was Lawson, and WG raced against Rainey, Doohan, Schwantz, Mamola and others from that period.

If it's a reasonable argument that the competition will be easier when Rossi leaves, then it's also logical that Stoner will win at a higher rate in those years.

If he maintains his current win rate and then increases it when Rossi leaves then it's entirely possible than he might get more wins than Rossi.

BUT, it certainly wouldn't mean that he would be better than Rossi. I guess my point is that if someone is a great rider, then they are a great rider and who is better than who is up to the beholder. It's like saying Jenna Jameson would be a better **** than Tera Patrick... it's just personal opinion.
