Here's a way out thought guys....

Who cares about a single tyre rule?? Personally I watch MGP to see who is the BEST RIDER not who has the best tyres.

If they all start on a level playing field, all with the same tyres, nobody with an advantage over anyone else IMHO it's a good thing.

All I wish for now is a total ban on all electronic aids and a return to 990cc so we can really see who is the BEST RIDER and not who has the best tyres or best electronic package.

Am I the only one who is happy at this first step???

About time too. All of the folks complaining about this decision are making exactly the same arguments that happened before WSB and BSB went one make. Both of those series produce more exciting and closer racing than MotoGP does these days. GP500 produced epic battles during the days when Michelin had a virtual monopoly, but this year has shown very clearly how one maker can dominate a series, making it virtually impossible to compete on the wrong rubber.

I'm hopeful that next year will produce more real racing and less dominance by a few riders with access to the best rubber. The only question is who will win the contract? Personally I don't care as the rubber will be the same for every

This rule will apply to a single tyre supplier - it doesn't mean a conrol tyre. The door is open for the supplier to still supply better rubber to the factory teams than to the satellite teams as happens at present. The top riders don't want a level playing field, Dorna don't want to jeapordize the huge TV rights from Italy and Spain by having anyone other than the top 4 or 5 riders fighting it out - 4 of the top 5 riders in 08 being either Spanish or Italian. TV coverage is falling anyway so lets "keep on with the show". Nothing to do with safety, but all to do with TV rights. How's that for a conspiracy theory??

I am hopeful it will be a control tyre, similar to WSBK.
Anyway, who says the tyre war is over??? it is continuing, but as a different format, this time it's called "WINNER TAKES ALL"

So the single tyre rule is finally here, this is going to make it really interesting.

Bridgestone could get it, if so I'm a bit worried that they'll concentrate on Rossi & Stoner only leaving everyone else on second rate tires.

Then there's Michelin, if they get it that will really piss on Pedrosa's chips!

Dunlop have said they're not placing a bid so maybe Pirelli will. I think Pirelli have a good chance, nobody has data for Pirelli's so it will be a level field & they already have experience with WSBK so know how to make it work & will be cheap. If they do I'm gonna put my money on Toseland for 09! Come on Pirelli!

Belly I don't recall reading about a control tyre either. If they do go to a single tyre, they need to make it a control tyre, with 3 compounds and no Qual tyres just like the supers.

My guess is they wont and certain riders will get special preference and others will get what they are given. My thoughts are the 2 HRC riders and the 2 Fiat riders with Italian and Spanish blood.

I guess this makes the World Supers more attractive with Aprilla and BMW joining and a swag of young riders joining the series.

MORE TO COME

MORE from my previous post.

One last thing. I think back 12 months and I remember a swag of people on this forum, under various unregistered user names telling us we needed a single tyre rule to make it fair, how the series was being destroyed.

Isn't it amazing, the same weekend we have the new 2008 world champion + the single tyre rule is announced. People are suddenly against it and it is no good for the series.

Who would have thought this would have happened. :-o I cant wait to see a heap of disagrees, it will go to proving me right.

I doubt whatever tyres they use the front half dozen riders will change much.. pretty sure the ducatis will get fair treatment too, not that it will do them any good.. :)

I think the best tyre rule idea would be a 'Monopoly' style rule. The worst tyre brand will get a new season contract and winning tyre still allowed to participate but only an entry each at a satellite team. New tyre company also allowed to participate with an entry. When the season end, the worst tyre will get the next following season contract.

These idea will solve masssive laptime reduction and promote competitive tyre developments in premier class. It's also open a chance for any rider to beat Stoner's record winning the title on a tyre that never win motogp title before.

Since motogp bike cost so expensive, winning tyre on satellite team will balance the competition to the maximum. Winning tyre open chances for satellite riders closer to fight for the title against factory riders and the gaps between riders in the race will be closer and close race more often on each round.

Thats great the you think Ducati will get fair treatment and you have singled them out.

What about Suzuki and Kawasaki? Last time I looked they were a part of the championship.

I guess it makes it attractive for someone like BMW is they wanted to join the series.

Zydon,

Maybe make Dunlop, Metzler or Pirelli the control tyre. I don't have a drama with that. I still think the need to go with the 3 compounds, just like the World Supers.
