Swings and roundabouts Blue Puma and Yam46! Some people will never understand that speed is not the be all and end all to winning a race. It's here in black and white, yet you still choose to believe Rossi must be superhuman to be able to win on this dog slow, total pig of a motorcycle that is a huuuuuuge 4 or 5km/h slower than the fastest bikes.
I reckon with a new set of plugs and quick carb balance, my old Z1R would give that gutless, ill-handling M1 a run for it's money. Look out Valentino!!!

Tanio

Rossi did not go to Ducati because of tobacco sponsorship + they would not allow the Princees to have his own way and throw fits.

Then he jumps on the Yamaha which was sponsered by 2 tobacco companies.

Seems to be the Princess has double standards.

It would be interesting to know how many of those who support Stoner do so simply because they are also Australian. I support Rossi because he's not only arguably the G.O.A.T - he's got personality too, and consequently support that transcends mere nationalism. Rossi's record speaks for itself, although he's only human and still fallible, and if Stoner ever wins more championships than him, then perhaps will be the time to argue that he is better, but I'll still PREFER Rossi.

So, those people who disagree must think Rossi's a god and infallible!

Motomito, there are fans of all riders on this forum now and then. The difference is that the majority of us (regardless of nationality) would not want to denigrate ourselves enough to want to lick the toe jam from between the toes of the rider/s we support after a hot, humid day - unlike many of the Rossi fans who post annecdotes of their unrequited love for him here on a regular basis.
When it comes down to it, I think he's a fantastic rider and a great icon of the sport, it's a pity that the majority of his fans only follow him and not the sport.
Grow a ball, take a chance and give one of the underdogs some support for a change.

Pretty arrogant to think you know all the Rossi fans and their reasons. So fans are a herd of animals that should be equally devided or else it's not fair? :p Gimme a break.
Support the underdogs? You mean De Angelis and De Puniet??? :p

Bob: If you read what I post you'll know that I always show respect for all the riders, and never descend to the level of puerile abuse of other contributors, even when provoked. Those with race experience have nothing but admiration even for the last placed. I watch primarily because it's a sport I love, regardless of who wins. The fanboys can have their say too....do you think the riders read this stuff and take offence? Preference is a personal choice.

Rossi outrode the field this year. A WC is a WC. However, the statistics for the year show some other interesting facts.

The Yam. package this year was the best: Rossi made 46% of the total Yam rider points and he scored points in every race, yet was the only one on BS. Stoner made 57% of the total Duc. points, yet with 3 non-scoring races. Top speed? - Melandri was often fastest. Pedrosa contributed a mere 30% of Honda points, but also had 3 non-scoring races.

For every 3 races Rossi won, Stoner won 2. In terms of podium finishes, Rossi contributed 66% of Yam's while Stoner made 84% of Duc's. To deny Rossi's achievment is ridiculous, to deny Stoner's ability requires stupidity.

Hi motomito! Good post but, even if Stoner wins more championships than Rossi, it won't be time to argue if he's better because, that would mean that he won the championships AFTER Rossi has already retired. We all have seen how hard it is for Stoner to cope with the pressure of Rossi being on the grid with a "competitive" bike. Stoner could blow all of Rossi's records away and it wouldn't mean squat if he couldn't do it to Rossi himself on the track. Rossi didn't have the chance to go head to head with Ago on the track to prove that he's better but, Stoner has a chance to prove that he is better than Rossi since Rossi is still racing. When Rossi starts up front, Stoner sweats! GOOOOO 46!!

who said the Yam is the best bike out there, that even slipstreamed a duc plenty of times this season? show up and give your comment please .... :p

The Morgue, I think Bob Buttamasangy preferably mean Stoner was the underdog, by looking at his first comment in page 1, but how come Stoner = underdog?, He is the biggest dog that Rossi have to deal with.
