Swings and roundabouts Blue Puma and Yam46! Some people will never understand that speed is not the be all and end all to winning a race. It's here in black and white, yet you still choose to believe Rossi must be superhuman to be able to win on this dog slow, total pig of a motorcycle that is a huuuuuuge 4 or 5km/h slower than the fastest bikes.
I reckon with a new set of plugs and quick carb balance, my old Z1R would give that gutless, ill-handling M1 a run for it's money. Look out Valentino!!!

@ i like who i like... you have a warped paradigm on what you read or you don't think much.
the reason stoner fans come out to his defense is because all the haters write him off and say it's all the bike.
clearly it's not all the bike, and anyone who has ever ridden a bike in anger would attest to the idiocy of such a comment.
you won't find many stoner fans that will argue against rossi's greatness, yet rossi fans such as yourself can't even give the kid the merit he deserves.... and you suggest stoner fans are baffling! hypocrisy at it's best!

Leyton Keske

Valencia 2008 race speeds:

Rossi top: 307.5
Casey top: 305.9

Results
Casey 1st
Rossi 3rd

I'l say it again, a few k's top speed means bugger all, and the minute difference b/w Casey and Rossi down the straight wouldn't be enough to prevent a slipstream. People still focusing on top speed are really showing their ignorance now.

bladeo: neither facts nor logic nor reason will change the stance of Stoner haters. True fans of Rossi and motoGp both understand why Rossi accords Stoner the greatest respect as a competitor - heck, Stoner already has won 16 times in two years, Biaggi and Gibernau combined won only 17 times when Rossi was racing. No matter how much you state your admiration of Rossi, it's not enough if you also concede acknowledgement of Stoner as a significant competitor. These people know so much better than Rossi himself who is / is not a 'worthy' adversary, obviousdly Rossi doesn't know sq1t all about any other riders' capability. As you say, it's easy to see who actually rides a bike, not a keyboard.

This is a article about Rossi and 'factual' figures for his 2008 season. It is the Rossi haters that are baiting other true objective fans with thier 'if' and 'but' comments. Stoner got beat fair and square.

Now if any Motogp team was told they could have a choice of Rossi or Stoner in thier team who would they pick?

Be objective and be honest. We all know the answer they would give without hesitation.

Damo, please keep in mind that Stoner started waaay ahead of Rossi in the Valencia race. There is no denying that Rossi may have had a higher top speed lap during THAT race but, what about most of the other races? Fromage said that Melandri was fastest most of the time. MELANDRI! And guess what? He was riding a DUCATI! Look at the Laguna Seca race. 95% of Stoner's passes were made on the long left-bending home straight. How was he able to do it in that spot so much? More POWER! There's no question about it, Stoner's the best rider Ducati has but, let's all be honest, the Ducati is a beast of a bike and Stoner knows how to extract the positives out of it.

The 2008 M1 has made drastic power improvements too though. Look at the Shanghai races in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Stoner didn't even need to slipstream Rossi to be able to blow past him on the longest straight. This year was TOTALLY different as we all saw. I feel like the Ducati is still stronger overall but, I feel like this year's M1 isn't that far off anymore. We saw that Rossi was able to make due with the 2007 M1 so, what did everyone think would happen when he got a "better" M1? Rossi can win on whatever, can Stoner say the same? If he ever gets tired of people saying it's the Duc that's allowing him to win and he changes teams then wins then, we'll see. GOOOOO ROSSI!

@46 XLVI. At this moment in time, I'm guessing that choice would be Stoner, as he has potential to win more races (championships) from this point on.
Now give us some of your 'factual' reasons why this wouldn't be the case. We all need a good laugh.

> If Stoner is going to break any of Rossi's records, it'll be after Rossi's loooong gone.

What forces you to overlook the guys like Lorenzo and Pedrosa? Or who knows Marco Simoncelli in 2012? For sure they gonna be World Champions too :) So relax, just don't take it for granted about all those post Rossi retirement years = Stoner titles :p

I see! If that's the case as the pre-req to write comments then i do stand better (be it like driving, riding, flying or diving) than another member on this forum but i reserve my comments (for this time) as am in no mood to get involved into biased debates
