Swings and roundabouts Blue Puma and Yam46! Some people will never understand that speed is not the be all and end all to winning a race. It's here in black and white, yet you still choose to believe Rossi must be superhuman to be able to win on this dog slow, total pig of a motorcycle that is a huuuuuuge 4 or 5km/h slower than the fastest bikes.
I reckon with a new set of plugs and quick carb balance, my old Z1R would give that gutless, ill-handling M1 a run for it's money. Look out Valentino!!!

Bob @ Work, I think championships are won on a year by year basis. If someone had to choose between Rossi and Stoner while Rossi was still racing, they'd have to be INSANE to pick Stoner over Rossi for numerous reasons. If you were the president of a new team entering MotoGP and both of them became available and you had to choose one knowing that neither have ridden your bike before, would you take a gamble on a guy who crashed ALOT in his rookie season in the premiere class and then won a championship in the 1st year of a new era for MotoGP when it was evident that MANY of the manufactors were caught with their pants down? ---continued---

(In Stoner's defence, he was and still is the only rider so far to get the maximum out of the Ducati and that says ALOT.) OR would you choose the guy, who's won MULTIPLE championships on DIFFERENT bikes AND tires? Keep in mind that Rossi has single-handedly drug MotoGP kicking and screaming to the fore-front of the world and because of his popularity, he has the power to get YOUR company exposure of EPIC proportions. Seeing how both haven't ridden your bike, from a business AND racing point of view, VALENTINO ROSSI has showed what he could do for you and your company if you chose him. Stoner has proved to be awesome for “Ducati” not so much for Honda. ---continued---

Would you really be willing to risk investing your money on him hoping the Honda days are over OR would you feel better putting it all on a man who's tried it all and defied the odds time and time again to prove to the world that he is the Greatest of ALL Time? Your time and money as president of your company are riding on this. Take some time to think about this sir, even if the rest of world KNOWS this is a no-brainer decision.

"I'l say it again, a few k's top speed means bugger all, and the minute difference b/w Casey and Rossi down the straight wouldn't be enough to prevent a slipstream. People still focusing on top speed are really showing their ignorance now."

Damo, That "small" top speed gap of course means "nothing" to a class like Rossi, but it means too much for others.
Yamaha needs to improve their bike so their other riders can compete with all ducati bikes, especially the one like Stoner.

The Crown is back with the DORNA G.O.A.T. I wish Hayden and Stoner had the same help from DORNA.

Laterrus, what do you think the odds for next year are? I reckon they are going to be very close between 3, possibly 4 riders. If you think Rossi will be a runaway winner at this stage, then I don't know why you'd even be interested in the sport, unless you are one of the many 'star struck' masses that seem to be the type of fans that Rossi seems to attract.
"defying the odds" obviously has a different meaning in UK/Euro to Oz. Having the best of everything for the majority of his career has had a MAJOR impact on his achievements and nobody can deny that. I hope the tyre rule goes some way to proving what some of us have always known. Here's to multiple winners in '09. Cheers.

Betting odds for next season, source BWIN

Rossi 1.75/1
Stoner 3.50/1
Pedrosa 5.00/1
Lorenzo 9.00/1
Hayden 18.00/1
Dovisioso 18.00/1
all others 200.00/1 or more

6 riders in with a decent shout (not 3 or 4), which all of us knowledgable people would agree with.
Stoner will not win it, bookies get rich of fools that back losers. Best outside bet has to be Dovi, followed by Lorenzo. Both will finish in front of Stoner.

Bob you are blinded by your ignorance, numpty.
