I like Rossi bashing as much as the next guy and after his defeats in 06/07, I wondered if his skills had begun to erode, or if his desire had begun to wane after meeting opponents like Stoner and Hayden who seemed unaffected by his mind games. However, this year, he was back with a vengeance. His jaw dropping Laguna Seca performance, which I was lucky enough to see in person, was the most masterful piece of racecraft I have ever seen, and quite possibly the best single race performance ever. A well deserved #1.

all those that left negative comments dont know a sprocket from a spanner.the man is a legend has i have said before instead of knocking him sit back and enjoy what he does because we wont see is like again.all hail the king

The Ago thing - he won a lot of races by more than a lap as he was on an MV 4 cylinder when others were on single cylinder bloody Nortons !!! Come on pal, there is having a joke and going ott !!
Hailwood, a different thing entirely, 1978 proved he was more than somewhat special.
But, so is Rossi.

Rossi is the man, on the track, off the track, and in the eyes of the vast majority of bike racing fans.
No single season flash in the pan is going to threaten that standing.
Consistency is the key, thats winning and podiums by the way, not consistently falling off when actually challenged to a race!

How can anyone deny rossi num 1,stoner is good but i think he can only win from the front and his bike was quicker in a straight line dont think him and rossi compare anywhere near,good luck to hayden for 2009.As for comparing schumacher to rossi or senna WRONG schumacher was a cheat look what he did to hill,look what he did at monte carlo stalling his car so no one can go any faster,senna was super human but he was also human,i think the day he died he had a fellow drivers death on his mind ratzenberger who died the very day before him that really did affect him,schumacher was too cold to be affected by that...........ROSSI ROCKS...

I have been following Moto GP and 500cc racing for more year's than I care to remember but like other knowlegable people involved in racing Vale is the undisputed king of motorsport, it IS hard to compare riders of different era's but in Vale's case there is nothing to dispute, his record proves he is the all time G.O.A.T!
Thanks Vale for the priviledge of being able to see the undisputed king of motorcycle racing in action!

You talk utter rubbish ron,your right about i thing stoner did lose it he started losing after laguna seca in the head,rossi did 2 things that day and showed c.s. he is only one of the boys,he made him look like he was still on a 125 and secondly showed the world who the king is with the race of the decade,oh and about stoners injury if my memory serves me right the so called injury was only mentioned when he lost or didnt get his own way,nether theless i do actually like stoner and think he is good just no where as good as rossi.........

If Stoner didn't have the best bike early on how did he win Qatar? The first race of the season.
