What a complete waste of time! Absolutely no room for any technical advances, just standard production line mediocrety. The rules should only be a fixed fuel allowance and a minimum weight limit. Let's get some intelligent engineers into bike racing rather than just yet another Supersport class.

16,000rpm for a 600 engine?

I know reliability and costs are important factors, but surely they could stretch it to 17,000rpm?

I think these engines need to be producing 160bhp- will they do it on these specs?

Suprised they''ve not capped compression ratio too...

The 9.4 reminds mee the system using in USA back in early 1970, at that time too it was possible to buy someone else engine finishing ahead of you.

Seems they learned nothing from the claimer rule in America's past - wake up!
How does a 4-stroke (crank, piston, valves, valve springs, camshafts, cam chain) reduce cost over a 2-stroke (crank, piston, power valve)?
I can't see any company wanting to run in this series but I wont be watching if it ever does.

Hmm, so no Desmo systems allowed then...A_R_S_E!
So much for "vive le difference!" then. We'll have a grid full of boring same as the next one Honda's...MEH!

Not so different from all those same as the next one two strokers when you get down to it. I don't think Ducati would want to enter a desmo with a claiming rule in place.

Jon M - compression is essentially capped by running "pump fuel" and I think 16,000 rpm is about the limit for conventional springs if they are made from iron based alloys. I suspect all these rules will bring about a 600 cc motor that is not going to cost a whole lot to produce. Most of the money will go towards R&D: based on the construction material limitations it will not be an expensive motor to build one design is done.

Sounds like the "buying someone else's engine" thing is another "playing field leveller" that probably will condemn the series to dullness.

Why not have a single make cup instead.... oh hang on, they do that already and nobody stays to watch it...
