@yamablah i think Yamahas done quite good job of keeping Honda honest,especially as theyre on a fraction of HOndas budget.powervalves,monoshock,right exiting expansion chambers,all Yamaha innovations,all copied by Honda on the nsr.can you tell me what groundbreaking 2 stroke technology Honda came up with?they just chucked money at their bikes and riders and bought their way to the top.as per usual.

The NSR was a beast, nothing came close to it.
To the Yamaha fanboys who just started watching Moto Gp.. Yamaha aint very good appart from a few lucky wins
Honda has always been the king of gp racing.
Get used to it.

Having watched motogp from the 80's, seem to remember the NSR500 having an animal engine but that brought handling problems, the YZR was a good allround package but not as fast as the Honda and the Suzuki handled well but had a severe power deficit from the others. Honda eventually got the handling sorted, Yamaha narrowed the gap on power and Schwantz did a hero job and won the title on the Suzuki (still have the video!). Looking at the current MotoGP bikes, nothing much changes!

the yzr500 was just as good a bike as the nsr500,the only difference it came down to was the rider.Yamaha never had a rider of the calibre of Rainey after he got injured.Honda as per usual bought up all the best riders.if Doohan,Criville,Rossi were on the yzr it would have been the same result.the yzr always ran rings round the Honda handling-wise,they just never had the riders to exploit it after Rainey.

@JukkaX

yeah yamaha winning by 7 points in the constructors isnt necesarily winning it easily is it? actually 2002 was the start of the Motopg era 4 strokes....check your facts. And even if Yamaha won the last 500cc in 2000 how does that constitute it being the best just because they won the last championship?? Its like saying Honda had the best 800cc bike just because they won the last one in 2011...

Blabla.. The undeniable truth is that Yamaha YZR500 won the Constructions Champion in the year 2000, in the last year of the 2-stroke 500cc, so, it was the fastest and best 500cc ever built.

To argue that Casey is not the king of the 800 series is pure crazy.
He had more poles more fastet laps more victories and his 2 titles all in the 800 era.Noone can claim different.If he is not the king of the 800 class who the hell is?
I also think that Casey would have loved the NSR500 and would have done well on it.Is it the greatest Motogp bike ever?
Probably.

4 agree. 10 disagree.

Blablabla.. Yamaha won the constructors champion EASILY in the year 2000, so clearly YZR500 was better and the best.
